Can you use normal twine as a substitute for hemp wick?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by alexxasf, May 1, 2015.

  1. I cant find hemp wick anywhere in my town right now, but i have some normal twine that ive been considering trying to use. My question is that is using normal twine safe to light a bowl? It might sound stupid but im really scared because the twine that i have has little hairs on it that might be toxic to burn in the bowl.

  2. I would pass since I am unfamiliar with the compounds of 'twine'.  Chances are its fine but you never know.

Why not order some wick online?

I can find hempwick at local headshop, hobbylobby (arts & crafts store), and even walmart (though I try to deter anyone from going there).

But I too have no knowledge of twine

**at walmart its in the arts & crafts section.

  4. im gonna research it more and then give it a go if whats its made of doesnt seem to be toxic. you should try everything once right?

  5. Be sure to post back with results, I am sure a few of us would be interested.

Going to do a little research myself, looks like some twine is coated in an oily substance.  It should say on the package if it is treated or untreated.

  6. If you can, buy some online
Got mine from weedporndaily on tumblr
10$ for 150ft, made by them, done nicely and the wick is very wicky, wont buy from anywhere else tbh.
Or was it 5$? I got it cheaper anyway because it was on sale in his store.

  7. For the people who have somehow never heard of twine:

OP: Hempwick and twine look a lot alike, but they aren't necessarily the same at all. Twine can be made out of all kinds of materials, including hemp. I wouldn't do it. Better to use a lighter than an unknown something that looks like hempwick but isn't.
