RSO problem, possibly contaminated ?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by silvrsurfer77, Apr 29, 2015.

  1. I had an issue, I am making a RSO type oil using everyclear and rinsing the bud several times and boiling it down, I then usually mix it with coconut and its taken by dropper bottle. I set up sort of a double boil using some small pieces of wood i cut off a stud n split into litle pieces to put under the the glass jar that is in the boiling water. This is to make sure the metal and glass are not in direct contact.

Heres where it all went bad, the everclear was down to about 1.5 cups in a big jar and i guess it got to light and one of the wood chips floated out and the jar tipped over allowing about 2 cups of water to mix with the everclear solution. the whole thing bubbled like crazy and now I have a milky solution with cannabis oil floating in it. Im worried that the boiled water with wood chips in it could be toxic but I dont know and its for someone with cancer so I want to be sure.  I believe its pine wood, it was 4 1" chips under the jar in about a 3/4 gallon of water. The water had a slight tinge like very pale tea after the wood boiled in it for some time.

Can I just boil it down and mix with coconut oil as usual or could that wood have added toxins to it?

What if you put the whole damn mess in the fridge and see if you can pick the oil off of the top, then use some fresh water and carry on with the reduction.  At least this way you will have limited the commingling of good and evil.

Or maybe the freezer is a better idea, or a combo of the two.  Whatever floats the oil best, I guess.  Play around with trying to seperate the oil from the water before concentration through evaporation.

I'm assuming the two mixture didn't spend too much time together.

    Just a thought.

  3. If I read your query correctly you had everclear GD mix into water?

I would add the coconut oil to the heated pot containing the water and GD. If my idea work you then freeze the mixture and take off the coconut oil.

To be certain I would suggest you post your problem in a pinned thread (under Incredible Edible Herb) called Another Tincture thread.

Ask there and hopefully Sam and co can help you.

  4. Filter though coffee filters to get the wood bits out and then add a small amount of the coconut oil or vegetable glycerin and freeze like others are saying and try to separate. Once seperated you'll probably have to cook it more to get the water and remaining everclear out.
