HPS question - cool tube or no?

  1. I'm wondering if any of you have tried using cool tubes in your HID setups? Did you find that they made your area cooler or are the benefits really only seen if you're growing in a confined space and heat is a real issue. I'm having trouble finding reliable information on tests actually done to show the temperature difference of using the same bulb (250,400,600,etc). I'm in the process of planning out a grow area and currently the biggest issue will probably be smell since I share a wall with a neighbor. So I'll have to build a grow box and then heat becomes an issue, I'm planning on keeping it relatively small with only 2-4 plants with the possibility of a small open area for veg/clones in the future.

Look forward to any input you all may have [IMG]

  2. cool tube combined with centrifugal fan = win

can literally place my hand on my tube and is cool to the touch

  3. wow is that a dedicated fan just for the tube or does it also cool your space?

  4. I'm glad to see your response TheAnswer121, I just ordered a 600w cool tube system today with 440cfm centrifugal fan. I was wondering, what temps does the room your tent/box sit in stay around? I'll be bringing in air consistently around 60-65F,  assuming that will work. It will vent the grow box also and have a carbon filter attached.

I'll post my own results here once I have them.

  5. So since I've had my set up running I figure I better check back in.
TheAnswer121 is dead on. I've been running my 600W now for a week, fan dialed back to 50% and easily keeping temps in the low 70s. Can put hand on cool tube glass and keep it there indefinitely. This is also the fan cooling the tent as well. If you haven't done anything yet anduin1, definitely go with a cool tube!
    I'm really impressed!
