Sup everyone, I've been playing guitar for around 8 years and some of my friends need a bassist for a gig they're doing at a bar. Not trying to brag or anything but to just give you an idea of my skill level, I can play crazy stuff from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin on guitar pretty fluently. Would I be able to jump right into bass for them, or is it not that easy? I don't really wanna let them down but I don't wanna fuck it up either lol

  2. sure you can...If you have played any instument after tahat you can play another especialy if you go from guitar to bass..
The diference is that on guitar you give harmony but on bass rythm and a little harmony...but it all depends of what you are playin (i mean on music genre) but I can tell you positivly that you can bass.
But also I can tell you that you will never play bass like someone who plays only bass.  :) For example my guitarist have been on Guitar Academy for clasic and jaz music he is amazing guitarist he come to my place and we jam and many times he took my bass to play it...so he plays my bass and i'm like '' I can't believe how he plays he is 10x better than me'' but he always gives bass to me and tells m that he's groove on bass will never be good as mine because I play bass and oly bass for 10 years...[IMG] :)

  3. Hell yeah, man. We sound pretty similar (Hendrix is my absolute favorite stuff to play) and I pick up my buddy's bass all the time! If you understand some basic music theory and know what chords are being played in each song, it should be easy.

Are your buddies playing originals or covers?

  4. Thanks guys, I practiced w them today and I'm pretty confident. Not suprisingly, bass is pretty fun lol
They throw in a couple originals but try to do covers mostly

  5. Bass is super easy, especially if you play hendrix. If you play a lot of hendrix then you are playing a bass line on your sixth string. Next time you play hendrixy chords, isolate the bass melody on your sixth string and then transfer for those notes over to bass guitar and then.....Badaboom, you can now play bass!

  6. Lol the bass is exactly the same tuning as standard tuning for a guitar on the lower four strings... E A D G. If you can play guitar you can play bass, the only difference is the picking technique with your fingers and various slap techniques for bass.
