Question about 4 piece grinders

Discussion in 'Other Smoking Accessories' started by Sneaky Snake, Apr 25, 2015.

  1. I generally buy small, 4 piece metal grinders and usually don't pay more than $20 for them. I've never had one break in any way, there's not a lot of ways they could break. As an example, something like this is what I usually buy:

But I see people buying essentially the same grinder with a name brand for 2-3x the price. To me, they look exactly the same. Something like one of these:

What am I missing here? Why would I want the more expensive grinder? What is the second grinder doing that the first grinder doesn't? I'd be willing to buy the more expensive grinder if there was actually a verifiable reason for it. Is there actually a difference or is it people just paying a premium for what must be an impressive brand name?

From my understanding, the cheaper brands might pay less attention to detail. For example, you could find metal shavings in the amazon one that are harmful to your health, the teeth won't be as sharp as a higher end grinder or the finish could have imperfections. That being said, the "best" product out there is always going to be relative to your needs. If the amazon grinder meets all the reqs on your checklist (aesthetic, price range, material, etc.) then that's the best grinder for you. I have an even cheaper 4pc amazon grinder that is pretty popular, in its own right, for the price and ease of use. So whatever works for you!

  3. The only reason I would get a space case if it I wanted the largest size. It's is what I would consider "industrial" therefore I'd pay that price.

  4. I've seen cheap grinders leave metal shavings, but I've been using a $5 plastic buster for years with no problems.

  5. Thanks for the feedback, that's pretty much what I thought. No real value. I've never seen metal shavings with any metal grinder I've had, and they've all given pretty much the same results, so I was curious.

  6. i have a neon green, plastic POS that has been faithful for.....holy shit almost 3 years! i ever saw the benefit to a grinder with all of the different chambers and crap that supposedly do all of this new fangled shit with keif and buds....meh.

what happened to the good old days, where we too whole marijuanas and ground them between boulders. then took old treebark and rolled a blunt with it. welcome to FLAVOR COUNTRY!!!

    ya....those were the days. [IMG]

  7. I picked up an American grinder for $30 and it kicks the ass of any of the $20 grinders I've ever bought. It has a lot more teeth that are way sharper. Grinds up bud more consistently and too a finer texture. Well worth the extra 10. There might be better ones out there but I'm plenty happy with this one

  8. I picked up a 4 piece on Amazon for $6 over a year ago and it kicks ass. No metal shavings, sharp teeth, good screen and connects kief great.
