Auto Fem Quick One First Time DWC

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by hihl, Apr 24, 2015.

  1. So as the title says the strain is a Quick One from Royal Queen Seeds i got it from The Vault.
Just put it in the rockwool cube that i let soak for about 30hrs in a Europonic Rockwool solution that i had won for free from a Radio Show. The Ph of the bucket is about 6.0 for Veg and arouind 5.8 for bloom (i talked to Brandon from Botanicare personally about this when i called the radio show) Cause i needed to ask him how to use their Organic Hydroponic 2 part Nutrient lineup. He was in studio on Wednesday at Heavy T's Grow Show for any of you that watch the show or follow it. Great stuff great stuff anyways. I also had to BOIL my hydroton at 250  Degrees in a pot of water for about 10min cause when i bought it, i was doing some testing before i actually germinated my seeds to do this, and my Hydroton has Fungus Gnat eggs in it, and they just started hatching. So i had to nip that problem in the butt before it started.

I have 2x air pumps now i have a Eco Air 1 and an Eco Air 2, the 2 has 2x Nossels on it i have setup to 1 airstone in my main bucket

And then i have the second one sitting in the bucket next to it that will be my main bucket for mixing nutrients and stuff for resivoir changes.

And about 15min ago i added the rockwool cube with the freshly germinated seed tiny little taproot just about 3cm above the bubbling water in the hydroton cause i dont want to soak the RW Cube i just want it to be damp so the Roots are prompted to grow downward in search of water.

My Water temps are at about 75 Degrees. Im just using plain old tap water that is let sit out for 24hrs to let the chlorine evaporate.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this and any feedback is welcome, i have a couple of grows under my belt but this is my first DWC and im excited.

  2. You want water temps under 70. you can never have too much air.

Also a little secret, you never have to change reservoirs unless there is a problem. My plant will drink them dry near the end so I never change the nutrient solution its just a waste.

  3. So i guess i should use frozen water bottles then with about 30% salt in it for more density to get my temps under 70? I heard the roots like 69 degrees

  4. Feel like im doing something right lol, got this seed from about 1mm Taproot  to this  in about 21hrs. I sure do love autoflowers.

  5. Don't put salt in your water bottles. Where did you get that idea from? If one leaked all your plants will be dead in minutes.

The chlorine in your tap water won't harm your plants, in fact it helps keep the reservoir clean. Leaving water open for the chlorine to boil off is something that soil growers do to stop the chlorine killing their bacteria

  6. Well yea man im using organic Nutes in my res, i cant let chlorine get in there or im screwed. Botanicare Pure Blend Pro is an organic nute.

Getting into the Hydro grow i was actually really nervous i backed off for a few days right when i got everything setup cause it felt intimidating after doing 2 soil runs. But from looking at my little Quick one this experience is probably going to be overwhelmingly positive for me.

4 days from seed in rockwool.

Hows she doing? She stretched a little more then what i wanted cause i had it under a 40w CFL for a few days, but now its under my 105W cfl now as you can see. So the stretch is under control.

Oh right, sorry. Do those nutes require converting by bacteria in to a form that the plants can use? Or are they already converted?

  10.
    It looks tip top mate

  11. Ya know thats a great question that im not sure about as this is my first time using these nutes, along with my first DWC i guess that could have been a question i would have asked brandon from botanicare but its not something i actually thought of. How do you find something like that out? Could i email botanicare about it?

  12. I don't know, I guess an email is best. Does the label list any ingredients, maybe any NPK ratios?

  13. Hey everyone just a small update.......hah what a joke i did a complete overhaul of my setup cause guess what............after 4 days with my temps where they were i already had pythium starting........my hoses in my buckets had slime on them along with the walls and the bottom of the bucket. Tomorrow im going to my hydro store to get some Hygromize or how ever you spell it. Seeing as how i can just reach 69 degrees in my res, i feel i will need that and or hydroguard.

This is what ive done........and i made this diagram before i invested in my project XD and it works beautifuly.

I have 3 1 Ltr bottles freezing right now along with 2x 2 Ltrs and i bought a 10lb bag of ice, the initial ice in the bucket was to drastically drop the temp fast and ive got a piece of tupperware in there now that im putting the ice in so i dont worry about messing with my PH levels, as i bleached everything i could earlier besides my Netpot lid. I did all my hoses and water stones etc etc. Took everything that even remotely smelled and or looked smiley and nuked it with a bleach solution. At this point if it makes it awesome, if not im learning and there is nothing wrong with that. I might also not live in a place that is very good for doing hydro seeing as how my house is 75 degrees with the AC on. And its 100+ Outside all summer long. Ive  also got a Soil plant running and its growing like crazy XD good ol' Sour Diesel Auto Fem from Royal queen

But i figure after the 2x Ltrs are completely frozen solid, 1 should last me at least 10hrs. I HOPE cause it will be a soil block of ice.

Does this work for ya? Im not sure what im looking for and i hope you can educate me a little if you have the time, thanks gold!

That doesn't look suitable for hydro, it's missing some very important nutrients. It's also says its not suitable for organic grows or food crops. It looks like the nutrients are already in a form that the plants can use so you wouldn't need bacteria in the nutrient solution. But are you sure it's designed for hydro?

  16. Here's the label from what I use

  17. I mean i talked to Brandon one of the Owners of Botanicare.........now you have me worried about using these nutrients at all. But the people at my hydro store swear up and down by it and so did brandon when i called him live on the air at Heavy T's Grow Show out  in california last week. I was even told to keep the PH at 5.8 for the entire run along with starting my seedling out at 500ppm after my roots show out the bottom of my netpot. Very specific instructions. I also won a gallon of Terppinator.

Also where it says not for organic food or crops, thats just a disclaimer law in California i believe, it comes on all the bottles of nutrients ive seen that are made and shipped from California.

Cause even in my local hydro shop ive went and seen some of the plants they are growing with this nutrient solution and they look great they have some pepper plants and they use to have a kale plant they were growing in store.

But whats the final verdict how do you feel about this product? Cause i mean i cant return it and i paid about 25$ a bottle. I dont want it to go to waste.

  18. Opted today and i bought a bottle of H202 from my local hydroponic store.

  19.
It sounds suitable then, I mean if people are getting good results in hydro it can't be bad lol. Maybe they don't list some nutes because they are in such small amounts

500ppm sounds very high for seedlings, but if that's their recommendation, I'm sure they know their product best

Well i mean not seedlings read above [IMG] not trying to step on toes but i did say when the roots start to show out of the netpot, for as tall as this plant is there is still no roots coming out of the pot. But also saying that the plant is not even a week old
