Are we even close to legalization in Canada?

  1. How long do you guys think it's going to take to get this legalized in Canada? With more and more states Legalizing weed how can of all placed Canada keep it illegal? I alway's thought Canada would of legalized it way before any states would have. Is our only hope to get this done is to get Justin Trudeau in office?

  2. Well liberals and NDP want to legalize it. I think that's one of the only hopes of having it legalized as soon as it can in my opinion.

  3. Conservatives will never legalize it, so getting them out of office will be a step in the right direction.

  4. just please don't split the vote and let cons win again. Everyone go libs this year and next time we can switch to ndp, but a liberal majority would be awesome we would prolly be able to grow our own and make edibles and concentrates also

they are in favour of it. The NDP want to decriminalize it but they are still studying it and are deciding what to do with it from what I have read so far.

  7.
    Decriminalization is not legalization.

    do not confuse the two.

they are also discussing if it should be legalized and taxed after they decriminalize it and study it more.

  9. Much closer than the chances of it being legalised in the UK. You guys are are on the correct path at least, i see it being legal in the next 5 years over there. Good luck

  10. With Harper in power, theres almost a ZERO chance of legalization. The only way i can see it being decriminalized or legalized in any way, is with the supreme court. Other than that, you better hope the Libs or NDP win. Lets look at the facts.  (TLDR)

1.The medical marijuana program was created because a sick citizen convinced the ontario supreme court that while he could legally possess marijuana through a "section 56 exemption" (doctors note), he had no way of getting the meds other than dealers.Keep in mind cultivating was also illegal, even for medicinal purposes.

This is when the courts determined the laws on marijuana regarding marijuana were unconstitutional, forcing Health Canada to create the MMAR program around 2001, which gave patients the choice to either grow their own stash, or buy the shitty reggie from health canada (which almost no one did)

    2. Concentrates. The original MMAR program and new MMPR program only allowed people to possess weed buds, not shatter, brownies etc. Those were still illegal. So once again a sick person goes to the supreme court (This time in BC) and the court sure enough deems those restrictions unconstitutional as well. So now possessions of ANY cannabis product are legal for card holders.

    3. Growing rights. These were taken away in 2014 when the old MMAR was replaced with MMPR, banning personal grows and forcing people to buy from authorized health canada growers. This pissed ALOT of patients off, and sure enough, they went to the supreme court, and a temporary injunction was granted,as the new programs restrictions were found...Unconstitutional. Anyone surprised?

Therefore people who had MMAR permits before the change, now are once again allowed to grow legally until the courts can come to a decision- which is still happening. However people with the MMPR permits are NOT protected.

My point being, with the government's anti drug laws being applied on not only people who smoke illegally, but now people that are card holders, and the supreme court constantly disagreeing with the government, theres a chance they might just get tired clashing with the Conservatives and realize "Hey, look at all these sick people, for a plant thats supposedly so awful despite the evidence wouldn't it make sense to just legalize the damn thing for everyone so we don't have constantly have to amend the laws, whats the worse that could happen? the US seems to be doing fine!"

I'm surprised John Lennons testimony at the Le Dain Comisssion back in the 70's wasn't enough to wake people the fuck up.

  11. Unfortunately, we Canadians are somewhat pussies when it comes to this type of stuff, we are a bunch of followers we rarely step up and take first actions for stuff that will likely make a big controversy.

Except if Trudeau gets into office as a majority, I don't see this happening any time soon.

Sure States are starting to legalize everywhere, and we start hearing of states like Texas wants to jump in. But I have a feeling Canada will only follow through when it will be legalized at a federal level in the USA.

And you will never see it happening like in Colorado, where they legalize it and THEN they started building a structure around it for growing, selling and taxing.  The government will first think about how to tax, sell and grow, only then will they probably legalize it.

And unfortunately, the Gov't loves to step in our lives a lot more than the USA, so I wouldn't be surprised if they would only le us buy it from authorized vendors (like SAQ or LCBO for alcohol in QC and On). Growing your own will probably require permits and making concentrates will probably be illegal the same way concentrating alcohol beyond a certain point is...

I really want to see cannabis legalized in Canada, but I have a nasty feeling that when it does become legal, it will be done in such a way that I will wish it was still illegal.

I love Canada, we have a beautiful country, but as I grow older and become more ''politically aware'', I am only sadder and sadder that these types of issues are so slow to move ahead even with all the proof Colorado and Washington has given us that almost only good can come out of legalizing weed... I feel like the Cannabis question is a big no brainer whether you are for cannabis or against it, you should want it to be legal. If you are against it, having it legalized is a great way of controlling it and keep the weed money out of organized crime's pockets. People don't seem to understand that whether its legal or not, we will still smoke it, it will only be a lot less damaging to society if it is legal...

  12. It's never gonna happen with a conservative government. Harper absolutely will not let it happen. Alberta may have a chance in the bearish future seeing as NDP got voted in

  13. I really wish it would happen soon.

In a sense Canada, depending on the region (BC here) It feels legal but it's still a taboo for some people but the most you'd get is a troubled glance. I've only once had an issue with fuzz once and they sent me on my way, bong AND bud in hand. It's fantastic being able to smoke on my deck or on a walk without worry but I want more freedom. I feel bad for the people without access to bud who just want some for recreational or medicinal reasons but cannot find it or fear the legal repercussions of a seemingly harmless plant that could potentially change their life for the better. Sigh.

  14. Elections coming soon guys heave steve

  15. The thing with our Canadian brethren is that even our liberals are more conservative than they are liberal.

  16. Thats true but atleast not true conservative s (I hope)

  17. He has been saying this for awhile just hope we are allowed to grow not just forced to buy and I believe ndp wants to legalization aswell but they have not come out and said it I think do to backfire they will get from all the old school voters that still think weed is bad

  18. You're right - growing has to be allowed too to be truly meaningful.

Liberals and Conservatives at virtual tie in recent polling. We're so close to legalized marijuana..

and to those that say they hope to grow, don't get your hopes up. The point is for tax dollars.. ounces are going to cost so much, but the bud selection will be so sweet.. we'll be dabbin', hashin'.. it's good.

just make the consequences for illegal growing, dealing, and underage use, more serious crimes.. get the government going with this. i'm excited.
