I have a few day old seedlings in a mix of worm castings, peat moss, and perlite. Is the ph of the peat moss going to be an issue? The only lime i have is Sta-Green rapid lime and I've read that anything fast acting isn't good to use. I think I can get some espoma lime if that will work, but I'm having trouble finding dolomite lime. Any help or guidance is appreciated.
Yep, a mostly peat mixture will have a tendency for the ph to drop. Epsoma is a brand, dolomite is a type of lime. The epsoma lime will work just fine. Epsoma products are some of the few sold in box stores that are actually worth buying.
Are my seedlings at risk right now or will they be fine til I can get usable lime? They're about 2-3 days old now
I would think it would be fine as long as you don't wait too long. From my understanding the worm castings will help some to naturally balance the ph as well. Lime will help to buffer the ph some, as well as provide a small amount of cal-mag.
