3 week old plant is sick - amateur grower needs help Leaves appear dry and curling

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by tdougie420, Apr 23, 2015.

  1. So I had some bagseed and extra money and small closet space so i decided to start growing them for fun. Problem is here we are 2 weeks later and this is 1 of my plants, I have 2 plants growing in the same space/soil/environment/everything and the other looks perfectly healthy, started off much slower than the first but is now exploding. I need help with this one.

hopefully this answers a lot of questions. Im nervous its simply wind burn on the plants, though at the same time they are still growing and curling even with the fan NOT directly on it. The plants are growing but it appears to be really slow now. One leaf has curled and the tip turned brown and has died, other leaves are curling pretty bad but remain dark green. They also seem really dry at the tip and more firm at the base. I have 18/18/21 nutes and epsom salt if i need them, any help would be appreciated!!! first time grower.

First pic is when it first happened, second pic is today. Unfortunately due to certain circumstances I could not correct the problem right away (out of town, roommate didn't know what to do). Its still growing, just not right.....seems like everything i read online gives me a different idea of what it could be every few minutes...

  2. over watering and overfeeding. you have to use perlite for good drainage.

  3. Deff over watering, be sure to let your pot get almost completely dry you can tell by lifting the pot up and be able to tell light or heavy. If you can't tell fill another pot up with soil and lift it up it should be slightly heavier being it has a little bit of moisture rather than heavy with a lot of water I. It yet. This will prevent you from drowning them like now and also help prevent root rot, you also look like your having ph issues. Check your ph see where you are at with a bad ph you will experience all sorts of deficiencies due to nute lockout. If you can also look into a different form of nutrients mg is not good for cannabis and you will end up with even more issues down the road. If you are too stubborn and just use it anyway go very light on dosage and give it at least every other feeding maybe even 1 nute feeding then 2 straight water and repeat. You will get salt buildup in the soil eventually so this will help slow it down and if you flush every other week that will help prevent the salt build up, good luck and happy growing.

  4. Okay, i just watered it this morning for the first time in 4 days to ensure the pot dried out, I gave it enough so just a little came out the bottom. Got home from work and I notice what appears to be new, healthy growth (though growth was slow today). So I think you guys are right, my next question is should I nip off the branches with the curcled leaves? They are pretty dry and probably just wasting my plants resources. My concern is that my plant still small so it will die if I nip them off. They are probably the biggest branches.

  5. Leave it on till if falls off what it's doing is catching your light and a essential part to photosynthesis whether it's damaged or not.

  6. Whats the Ph of your runoff? Looks like mag deficiency/nute lockout.

  7. Over watered. Miracle grow moisture control absorbs 33% more water then other potting soils according to they're website. It claims to release water slowly to prevent over and under watering of regular household plants. Completely wrong soil for what you're growing. If slow release nutes aren't bad enough, water absorbing soil is. Since the soil retains water I highly doubt it was dry in only 4 days. The top inch or 2 of the soil may have been, but probably not the rest of the pot. It was probably still storing water to be released

  9. UPDATE

First pic is of the sick plant, now a bit older. It seems to be growing just fine now despite the over watering. I adjusted the watering schedule and might add a small amount of Epsom salt as well.

Second pic is of my other plant, sitting inside the same potting soil but doesn't show any significant signs of over watering. It was quite a bit smaller than the first plant but has caught up while the other was recovering.

Any other advise? It is much appreciated, I've already learned a lot.
