Brownies with Hash Oil for a first timer?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by journey55, Apr 23, 2015.

  1. Hello, my friend (also the guy I buy from) told me that I can make brownies using hash oil that are way more potent than with the equivalent amount of weed in the price point (ie $80 worth of oil vs $80 worth of marijuana). The problem is whenever I try to search this I find vague answers or simply stuff about the oil you make with weed for other edibles.

I just want to know if it's possible, is it better than just $80 of bud, and is it hard for beginners to do. I was hoping there'd be a video tutorial or something but I guess my hopes were a bit high

  2. its easier to dose with oil. they're only as strong as you make them.

yeah heat up the oil enough so it doesn't clump in whatever you're making, just so it's easier to mix and make all of the edibles the same potency. be sure to decarb aswell

  4. You can make more potent edibles with oil than cannabis.  That means you can make as many as you want- potent or less potent, or lightweight.  The question is how much oil is $80 worth, how many grams?  How much cannabis for $80?

I would have to search the forum, but I know there are recipes for using oil to make cannabutter to bake with.  A real advantage is you would only have to mix a small amount of oil into the butter/oil so you can use a recipe that only calls for 1/4-1/2 cups of butter/oil.  You could never make canna butter that strong using cannabis alone (well, I'm sure there's a way).

  5. You can make edibles that can get you higher than you want to get just with cannabutter made from shake and trim alone. You don't have to waste hash oil to get blasted on edibles. You can make cannabutter stupidly strong.

  6. If it is your first time with edibles, then I recommend you try one of the beginner-friendly recipes in the "sticky" threads bookmarked to the top of this forum. There is a reason these recipes are so popular and have been selected as the "best-of-the-best."

You can make edibles from just about anything, including: leaf, trim, shake, buds, kief, hash, and oil. You should always use the highest-quality and best-tasting ingredients that you can afford. The questions of economics and potency really come down to % of THC, and it is impossible for me sitting where I am sitting to judge what is best for your situation. If dabs are a rare luxury where you live, then $80 of buds might give you more THC. But if oil is plentiful in your neighborhood, then $80 of dabs might give you more THC. Or, maybe your dealer is just being a good salesman and talking up the benefits of his product. The ultimate experiment would be to buy $40 of each and make 2 separate batches of brownies for comparison. ;)

My advice for edibles is: start slow, know your tolerance and limits, carefully measure the ingredients and calculate the exact dose so you can replicate the experience next time, and be detail-oriented, like a science project. Good luck! :)

  7. Damned good advice! The cautions about titration cannot be overstated. Once ingested, you're in it and the ride doesn't stop for hours, so you don't want it to be a white knuckle kind of trip.

  8. Thanks for all the input so far, I've had edibles before, just never made them so I'm a bit cautious cause I don't want to ruin $80 worth of bud/oil. I am leaning towards getting like a quarter of some good bud instead of just 2 grams of oil, if only for simplicity's sake in that there aren't too many pictures or guides on using oil, while there's a whole bunch on bud.
I'm actually looking at the brownies in the sticky since they don't seem overly complicated but I am wondering if I'd be better off with getting more mid stuff (or even a bunch of lower grade stuff) in lieu of a quarter of really dank bud...I tried to search a bit but the answers weren't too straight forward.

"Cooking with kind bud is a waste of kind bud" is an internet myth. If the bud is kind for smoking then it is also kind for eating. ;)

Of course if you have access to low-cost/free mids or trimmings, then that is probably the most economical way to make canna butter; just use extra material to compensate for the lower potency.

  10. using oil for edibles isnt a waste either.

  11. When I said waste I meant the brownies not being potent due to an error on my part. Although it'd be nice if there were a step by step guide to making oil into butter/cooking oil like there is for the brownie guide, I'm leaning towards using like a quarter of purp or something just so I have some experience with it if I wanna try doing it with oil

  12. A quarter will make a STRONG batch of brownies for most people's tolerance. Start slow (maybe only eat a quarter or half brownie the first time), be safe, and have fun. :)
