My First Ever Grow

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by Jwhat201, Apr 22, 2015.

  1. First off I'll add a few pics of my lights and setup and just explain some stuff.  Feel free throughout my grow if you follow to give any advice, suggestions or info you might have.  Planted my seed last night in a white cup, and watered her until the soil was moist.  I've been checking the soil every hour or so, and if it felt dry I would water a little until moist.  Twice so far since planting.  The soil Im using is Promix Vegetable and herb organic mix.  The area feels warm but not too warm.

Lights I'm starting with and using for Veg are 6500k 23W (100W) CFL bulbs, set to be on for 10 hrs and off for 14 hrs.

  2. Goodluck mate, this is what i refer to as a ghetto-grow.

Have fun with it! BTW I would keep it on 24/0 light for the
first two weeks just to help the plant get started

  3. Subbed,

not so sure about 24/0, but I think you should recalculate to an 18/6 schedule. Also good luck on your grow.

I just started my own grow, you can find it in my profile :)

  4. Thanks my lights came back on about an hour ago, and I just made the switch to 18/6.  Don't wanna stunt any growth.  I've been checking my soil every 1-2 waking hours, and if it feels dry I'd water a little until moist.  And before I go to sleep Id give it a bigger watering.

    Sound alright?

  6. Looking good best of luck to you. Best to have the lights on 18/6 for 4 weeks then switch to 12/12 with a grow that size.

  7. I might have to try two grows of identical seeds and see if either 24/0 or 18/6 works better for the first two weeks.

Then I'd need to do two more at the same time for 4 weeks. Now I just need the time and space 0.0 I'm sure whatever
method will work better than 10 hours a day.

  8. I'm not sure going from 24/0 and then switching to 18/6 after a few weeks will really have an effect on the plant's growth. But I might be wrong.

My seedlings are on day 9 on an 18/6 routine. It seems to me that they grow a lot more overnight in those 6 hours than they do all through the simulated day. You can see my plants in my journal [IMG] but here's a cute picture too.

  9.
Probably not, I'll try just about anything once to see happens 0.- I was trying to make a winky face.. lol

  10. Good start! I am also doing a CFL grow. 10 days in, 24/0 light cycle. Not switching to an 18/6 until they start showing sex. They have grown quite a bit! Constantly having to go in and readjust the height so they aren't too close to the lights. They are about an inch or two from the light. Check it out on my page if you like I put in some major detail on it.

Good luck on your grow too! I will be following it. :)

  11. Little update, still watering as I was, woke up today and the soil was pretty dry so I watered it until the soil was moist around where the seed is.  No sprout yet, but its only been almost 2 days.  Patience is key I hear.  Please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong or if you have any suggestions, thanks!

  12. I've always been told to germinate your seed in moist paper towels in an airtight container and then once the root tip has sprouted place very carefully into the soil.
But putting the seed directly into the soil was the way nature intended it so maybe it'll just take a little longer.
Be careful not to over water though..I did with some shallots (I know completely different but a plant nonetheless). I watered them too often before the sprouted and they rotted under the soil.

  13. everyone has there different ways for germinating I like to do it straight in the soil and have had 100% success rate but moist paper towels work well, cotton wool etc and it let's you check on how they are doing and if they pop but I can check how my seeds are doing under the soil by poking around and checking :p

  14. Nice so its okay to poke around the soil and check things?  I think for now im just gonna let it sit and do its thing though, my lights are on 18/6 and im keeping the soil moist , if it dries out I water it.  just waiting on a sprout. Sound good?

  15. Yeah ha ha I pull the top of the soil off gently with my finger to check on the seeds see if the white bit has come out.

Lights came back on not too long ago, and she broke the soil [IMG].  Not much but I can see her now, looks good!  Watered a little around her just then, now I'm gonna keep doing what Ive been doing, checking every couple hours and watering a little when the soil looks dry.[IMG]

Edit:  One probably weird question but I live in a small apartment, wondering would music or television effect my babies in any negative way?

  17. Ah, congrats! haha, doesn't it make you feel like a proud parent when you first see that green pop up? You sound like a helicopter parent for that plant. Probably a good thing.

I wouldn't think so. As long as you're not directly damaging them, i think they'll be fine. Also, I would maybe see about focusing your light with a grow box of some kind? That's the only thing I would suggest.

Good luck on your grow. :)

  19. Go to Walmart, in the sports and outdoors section there is a package of what they call "an emergency blanket." It's made of really reflective material and a lot of it. You can cut it and stick it to the inside of your box. That's what I did for mine.

    As seen below
