Hi everyone.  I am stoked.  I have an ounce of purple diesel water curing right now and am going to make a cup of butter and chocolate chip cookies as soon on the water is clear.  When I changed the water this morning- first change- the water was a dirty brown.  It's amazing the unwanted things that come out in the water.  Water cured cannabis, imho, makes the best canna butter.  I also use unsalted butter and clarify it before adding the cannabis.   I'm not sure if I'll decarb or just cook for a long time in the crockpot.  I'll keep y'all posted.  I'm stoked, like I said.  It's been a while since I made any edibles.

I'll cut (will make a bar cookie) the pan into 28 separate pieces- one gram per cookie.

I also strain the waste water through a coffee filter so as not to lose anything.

  2. I'm just curious, is it known that something could be lost when water curing? Like for example, are there any minor things in cannabis that are water soluble?
Regardless, good luck man I can't wait to hear how it goes! I'm definitely gonna try water curing the next time I make something. Just never knew that it's purpose was pulling nasties and toxins out of the bud so thanks for that!

  3. bigcat13, thanks for your reply.  I'll keep you posted.  I don't think water curing takes anything good from the marijuana.  The THC is not water soluble.  I strain the water through a coffee filter to catch any glands or small pieces that would go through my strainer.

  4. Second water change today- water still a nasty brown color.  Trying to decide whether to decarb, or just cook for about 12 hours.  I figure if I decarb I can cook it for less than four hours.  However, the most potent edibles I ever made were made with non decarbed fresh popcorn bud and trim.  I cooked it for at least eight hours.  Those cookies were dynamite, but I used a lot of cannabis.

  5. Good morning, Joker. I, too, am in the process of water curing an ounce of purple diesel trim popcorn buds and am now on my fourth day. The water is still brownish and doesn't clear until about the fifth day, changing the water each day. To ensure the material is fully cleaned a full seven days cycle should be used. The last two days the water will be clear.

There is very little loss of anything other than contaminants and unwanted plant compounds. The cannabinoids are not water soluble nor are the other terpenes and other beneficial esters, flavonoids, oils, etc.

Since my popcorn buds came from a source unknown to me in bulk and I found a little grow medium in it, I decided the best bet would be the water cure since I really didn't know whether it had been flushed prior to harvest or or anything else about it. Better safe than sorry.[IMG]

  6. PsychedelicSam, thanks for your input.  That's neat that you're using the same strain.  What's your feeling on decarb?  The best, most potent cookies I made were from trim and popcorn buds and I just cooked in the crockpot for about eight hours. They were fresh.  Also what ratio are you using of cannabis to butter?  I just bought some Plugra today which has a higher portion of butter fat.  I clarify to get rid of the milk solids.

Mine was just harvested a couple of weeks ago and I'm going to be making green dragon from it so I definitely will be decarbing it. I haven't made crockpot butter in quite a long while but early on when I did do it that way, my caregiver/grower advised me that 13 hours in the crockpot was the magic number. This was before decarb was very well known and the grower didn't decarb their material before hand and their edibles were excellent and strong so I have always used that and advised that time ever since. However, I can't really say whether that works because I have always decarbed first but there is becoming more and more anecdotal evidence that decarb will happen within the medium for an extended period of time. The same grower told me 18 hours for oils such as coconut oil, olive oil and such. Hopefully someday I'll have enough cash that I can run a few lab tests to find out whether that's true or not. As far as ratios are concerned I always used an ounce per pound of butter but of course my tolerance was a lot lower then and now I make my butter and oils for edibles from a green Dragon extraction.

I've never heard of Plugra. I previously used ghee or clarified butter until I realized that it didn't make any difference except for gourmet dishes. [IMG]

  8. PsychedelicSam, how much do you grind your bud for cooking in butter/oil.  I usually put mine through a coffee grinder, but it hurts seeing it all chopped up and to see what I can't get out of the grinder.  I know it's minimal, but I want every last gland in my butter.  I've also decided to decarb at 240 F for 30-45 minutes so I won't have to cook so long in the crockpot.  An alternative would be 290 for 7 minutes.  I saw this on a hart that compared rates of THC decarb for different times and temps.  290 F for 7 minutes seems to be the magic number

How does this sound to you.  I appreciate your input.  Cannabis is my favorite subject and hobby.  You're helpful.  I want to think this out properly.  I'm going on vacation to see a friend who can't smoke.

I don't grind my material very fine. I use a mini food processor that holds about an ounce and break it up until the buds are broken down and everything's about the consistency to roll a good joint. I have found that the finer the grind, more of your extracting medium the material will retain and you can't recover no matter how much you squeeze it.

I prefer to decarb but at 220 for 30 minutes or less depending upon the age of the material. I have had my material lab tested both before and after decarbed verifies my method so I'm happy with that. There are various ways to decarb and we all find one that's best for us. I like the lower temperature with the longer times because I like my results to contain as many of the terpenes and other plant compounds that get vaporized during decarboxylatgion, and for medical reasons.

Cannabis also seems to be my favorite subject and hobby, so much so that it's more like a job I can like. I'm glad I can help with what little I know. For your friend who can't smoke have you considered tinctures, especially alcohol extractions. If you take the time to learn about them it will greatly increase the number of high quality edibles and other items, including coconut oil, butter, honey, sugar of various types and the list goes on and on. Water curing is a good step on its own but there's more you can do to make your edibles gourmet.

I'm sorry I was so slow responding but my left arm is in a brace and a splint and in a sling so my responses are a little slow right now. I'm using voice software that takes a lot of juice from my computer so I can use it only a couple of times a day. If you have any questions feel free to ask. [IMG]

  10. Two more days on the water cure, water is clear now, but it's only day five of seven.  As long as I'm doing the water cure I might as well do it for the full seven days.  I'm waiting for a mini food processor like PsychedelicSam mentioned.  I don't like using the coffee grinder
it's too easy to grind the cannabis too fine.

I'm going to visit my friend the first weekend in May and am excited.  She did edibles with me once years ago, and doesn't like to smoke so edibles are all we've got.  It's a shame- she's in a medical state, but not interested in getting a card.  I might move in with her.  Lol.

  11. Got the cannabis water cured and drying in front of a fan.  As soon as it's dry I'll chop it in the food processor and decarb then start on my butter  I plan to make pan chocolate chip cookies and cut into 28 pieces.  Stoked.  My trip is next Thursday.

Cannabis, dried, and processed through the food processor. Decarbed. I love the mini food processor.  It chopped the cannabis to a perfect consistency.  There wasn't powder everywhere like I ended up with the coffee grinder.  Hit a bit of a snag this morning, can't find my crockpot.

Found the crockpot.  Butter and cannabis in the crockpot.

  13. Made 18 cookies.  By my calculations 1.5 grams/cookie.  I still have a workout to do today, so I'll be waiting for early afternoon to eat one.  Report to follow.

  14. Well, I cut the cookies into 18 portions of two sizes.  This way I can take a bigger dose with one cookie.  My friend who is a real lightweight will get a smaller cookie and just eat a little.  I ate one of the larger cookies and I'm stoned.  There is no other way to describe it.  It's a body high and my head feels heavy. Still,  I have energy and was able to take the dogs on a walk.  I'm satisfied with the potency. I'm happy. One ounce to one cup of butter.

  15. Took my cookies on the road this weekend.  I gave a friend one and told her to only eat a small amount. Pat is a real lightweight. She said she would just have a bite- she wanted to lay down and sleep.  I ate one cookie at the same time.  About 90 minutes later she was still in the bed.  I wasn't quite high enough so I ate another 1/2 cookie.  About then both doses hit me and I'm stoned.  Have to go sit down and just enjoy the high.  Hours later we go in to check on my friend.  Someone said something's wrong with Pat.  Her eyes were crossed and she couldn't speak a letter much less a word.  Couldn't get up, she's totally fucked up.  Then I see this crumpled ball of foil on the bedspread.  She ate the whole 1.5 gram cookie.  I warned her.

  16. Cool story, you fed your lightweight friend 15x the legal Colorado THC limit and then left her alone for hours without checking on her. :(

  17. Yeah, not so cool.  I take responsibility.  She doesn't sleep well, so I thought she had taken her "bite" and gone to sleep.  I did tell her not to eat but a little bit.  The other two cookies I left for her were entrusted to her girlfriend with dosing instructions.
    Point taken, puddleglum.

  18. Sorry I snapped at you, a friend did that to me once and I am still getting over it. I would totally try one of your bomb ass cookies myself. ;)

  19. No problem, puddleglum.  It was irresponsible.  I just never imagined she would eat the whole cookie.  She's had experience with my edibles before.  Luckily she was ok later that evening, but I'll be more careful from now on.
