Seedling issue. Anyone think this is lack of phosphorous?

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Blondie2014, Apr 21, 2015.

  1. I can't seem to overcome this issue. I spent a good amount of time trying to figure and I think it's low ph locking out phosphorous. It's clearly something not good though. This seedling is over three weeks old now and is getting worse slowly.

My plan unless someone has a suggestion is add baking soda, a touch of epsoms salt and some amount of lime.

    Ideas?? Comments??? Anything????

  2. id wait until some of the more knowledgeable growers take a look before adding anything.

what potting soil and amendments is the plant in?

  3. Before anyone can give you advice w need to know what it is growing in. Is this a bagged soil or one you put together? If the later, what all did you put in it and how long did it cycle?

We generally aren't big fans of adding much of anything after the fact around here. We also don't really care about ph.

  4. Y understood about ph. But... I can't get rid of this and have no other idea. Seriously.. Out of thoughts. It's been going on a long time now sadly. A sordid past of remixing. Base is coast of main Penobscot blend. Spm added, lime added, plant tone nutes and perlite. I thought I finally licked this as after all remixing. It sat a month and a half, after adding everything. That was four or five months ago. One male or hermi grew in it for about month and a half. When I chopped it, it had some spots like this on it. Not many. I thought they were old spots and the issue was gone. Apparently not.

It's also starting on my plant that has been flowering for two weeks. It's not real bad but it's really obvious. I think that is about it..

Before you go adding anything to correct something that may not even be there, I would up pot (transplant) your seedlings. It looks to me like your  problem is environmental and not a lock out / deficiency.

I would transplant them into their final pots with a top dressing of vermicompost and then let them be. Watch the health of the new, emerging shoots. Vermicompost is a complete food as well as a tonic to steer the plant towards good health. Once you start on a path of adding this, that and the other thing, you alter the chemistry of the soil and there is no turning back.

  6. Thank you for your input. I would like to avoid adding anything. I think repot is a good idea. I can't imagine though rootbound would cause this?

Overwatering could be your problem.  COM products are very dense, and retain a lot of water if extra aeration (>33%) isn't added.  At least that's what I've gleaned from other growers.  If you watch the video on their website for the Penobscot Blend, it definitely seems to me that this product is geared more for outdoor use, as opposed to being used for indoor potting mixes.  Could be why you've experienced this problem in the past...

How do you determine when it's time to water?

  8. This is just my opinion but I would flush with ph'd water and repot. Looks like calcium deficiency. Otherwise it looks good nice dark green leaves.???

  9.
    No...

  10.
Flush what? And IF it was a Ca deficiency, what would flushing do?

  11.
When in doubt you should always flush and add Calcium! A typical stoner knee-jerk reaction to anything that is amiss - real or imagined.

  12. Just hold on there Bucko!

You know full well you just can't go adding calcium without a good dose of the salts. ;-)

A flush will be required in due time. :-O

    My brain, it hurts.

I'd say chances are its your water supply compounded with a poorly prepared soil. Lacking/Excessive in Ca,Mg, and/or K. This mixed with either high EC tap water or RO (Which is fine, with an appropriately soil ratio...) is probably the problem...

Or your VPD is way too high and you're creating the deficiency by creating the imbalance through transpiration. Low RH = More feed = More Ca up take = Imbalance = Tears [IMG]

You're right in that its probably a Ph problem, and honestly that seedling will be so pathetic by the time you could fix that it would be better to either start over or transplant into viable soil.

Sorry man, shit happens. Wipe it up and learn

  14. Just transplant into a good soil as Chunk suggested, give it a little time and it will be perfectly fine.

    No problem.

  15. My brain it hurts also. More so now. Any rate...

I determine watering loosely. I do my best to put my finger in and feel,dry/moist. Usually about every four or five days. Water until some comes out the drain holes then stop. Over water is an interesting possibility, one I really had not thought of. Mostly due to I figured leaves would claw.

I don't think it's poorly prepared soil at this point as when fixed the last plants took off nicely. The males/hermi went gangbusters. Also my one plant I put in to,flower two weeks ago was doing just fine until maybe a week or less ago. Using same soil that is.

I'm coming up with some ideas here thanks to y'all. I top dressed a week or less into flower. I am wondering now if that made an already heavy soil very heavy. I'm going to repot, add more aeration, and watch new growth. Last chance for this soil.

I'm likely going to toss this soil outside here soon.

Thanks guys and any gals on here. I'm very close to getting some nice magic beans from across the pond. I want to work out all the bs with my soil first.

    Thanks thanks thanks

  16. Don't over think it and don't love your plants to death by messing with them all the time.
You will hear many of us say LITFA (Leave It The F^%k Alone) over and over and for good reason!

  17. This is the truth! It took me a long time when I first started growing to learn to leave it the fuck alone! It's hard when youre new to it, its all so exciting, but a hastily made decision is a poor one.

OP, you've got a positive attitude and you're obviously willing to learn. Keep your head up man, you'll be producing da fiya before ya know it :)
