Keeping birds off of plants

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by MotaMike, Apr 20, 2015.

  1. Does anyone have any ideas that will keep birds off the cages I put around my plants?
Last year there was one little bird that would sit there every day on my Blue Dream plant and crap on the fan leaves and sometimes the buds. Now I have a bird feeder so I am afraid it may become worse.

  2. Fake plastic owl, or something similar to the birds of prey in your area?

  3. Spray toxic residue on the cage wires :D jk don't do that

well for one don't have a bird feeder thats gonna bring curious birds to your property and investigate that amazing smelling plant you have

or you can move it indoor

or you can have like a fake coyote by the cage

or you can just go into the nearby woods with a flamethrower and go postal

  4. Get a garter snake.

  5. Many places put spikes to keep the birds from perching where they are not wanted. I had a problem with crows pulling up my small starters and I lined the plant containers with pointed sticks to prevent them from landing. Kind of "mid-evil, but problem solved. I used wooden kabob sticks and cut them in half to get twice as many.
You didn't show a picture, Is it possible to put spikes on your cages?
Lot of people use reflective objects that flicker in the breeze. Shiny ribbons, hanging CD's, metal can lids, etc.

  6. I think I've seen holographic ribbon streamer things that are supposed to keep birds away. The plastic owls have worked for my folks with nesting birds above their covered patio. I think I've also seen inflatable(?) snakes to set out to scare them off.

  7.
I've always wondered what you looked like...  [IMG]

  8. Bird netting is cheap and works great.

  9. hang cd-roms/dvds  from a string, they get scared from them.

Just stand there all day every day flapping your arms.

By the end of the summer your arms will look like this -

Scare Eye Balloons from Japan...these can be helpful with some species of birds but not all.

  12. The cages are made of concrete reinforcement wire.

  13. Train your dog to get off his ass and guard the weed.  I got a dog and she chases all the animals off our property.  I don't grow here but if I did my dog would take care of that problem.

She doesn't give a shit about birds. Now if it were cats or other animals she is all over them. American Pit Bull Terriers are not into birds. lol
