Bahamas/Jamaica/Cuba

Discussion in 'General' started by RoadRunner70, Apr 18, 2015.

  1. We found most of the locals where we were (Puerta Plata) to be very polite. Never been to Cuba, don't think I'll ever go there for some reason.

Jamaica is definitely our next trip. From reading, Negril is the best place to go for good bud. I'm sure it's not too bad in Montego Bay if you shop around, though.

  2. Whos been to the royalton cayo santa maria or barcelo solymar in cuba?

  3. BVI's are amazing! Amazing water clarity and kept up really nicely. The diving is amazing, if you're into that. Awesome beaches with really scenic coastlines (All though most of the Caribbean has that much in common.).

Don't go to the US Virgin Islands though, it's totally corrupt and run down. Streets aren't kept at all and you'll actually find raw sewage in the streets!

Bahamas (where I happen to be right now) are very beautiful but I think your budget would find you a bit limited on what you can do. Luckily for me, I'm getting payed to be here!

Saint Lucia is really nice, at johns is awesome, Dominica, st Bart's, the ABCs are all really cool places to check out, where deals can be found.

What are the main activities that you plan on doing? I've been to about every country in the Caribbean, so if you narrow it down a bit, I may be able to further assist.

  4. Thanks for the reply! I will most likely be doing a lot of diving, hiking, and any other cool things we may come upon.
Havana a good visit if youve been there?

Dammit, I'm going to have that Beach Boys song stuck in my head now.

I'm guessing your going for tourism then? Plan on doing any diving or fishing or anything? I'd wait for lobster season and hit one of the smaller islands of the Bahamas like Bimini.

Man, you should be more worried about the fishing than the clubs. Why would you go to the Caribbean and not fish?

  7. Are you kidding i love fishing...judt forgot to mention it!!

  9.
In all fairness it's kinda hard to plan a fishing trip without a boat. Tell your friends to pitch in for a charter or they ain't coming.

  10. Where at in the caribbean did you go? Expensive to rent a boat for ourselves?

We've taken our own boat to the Bahamas and Bimini. I've spent some time in Belize, Cozumel. the Yucatan, Cayman Islands and parts of Mexico. I've been on a cruise to the same areas but it's not the same. My favorite is Bimini. It's less than 10 miles in size but IMO it has some of the best fishing in the Caribbean. Cool diving sites like the Bimini Road and corals too. Some of the more central Bahamas islands might be what you're looking for, more resorts, casinos and shit.

  12. I know this is kind of an older topic, but how much did weed cost there?? I've heard it's cheap af

  13.
Haha this is just a random pic bro, I've no idea. I imagine it'd be cheap cheap though.

There is a resident Jamaican Bladie here that may be able to give you some insight.

  14. you don't know his name do you?

  15. Negril Jamaica is the place to go...!
The recent decriminalization of 2 oz or less has started to change the amount of "off resort" exploration that is happening in Negril. This is a great sign for the local residents, who are typically removed from the chance to make any direct tourism dollars, as they aren't allowed on the resort properties.

My brother is a local fisherman who dedicates his efforts to sell traditional fishing trips along the beach and with these recent changes he's expanding his service to include accommodations, up river tours and ganja tours.
If anyone has plans for Negril, reach out and I'll help out where I can....

  16. Not sure how build up the Grand Cayman is after the hurricane, but I went in 2004, and it was decimated by a hurricane a month later. If it's built up, I would recommend there. It's just south of Cuba, and insanely beautiful.

Never heard of anywhere else where you can go out a few miles into the ocean, and there's a sandbar (so the water is only like 3 feet deep), with stingrays that have their stingers clipped.

All the beaches are just ridiculous, the water crystal clear, bright white sand, good seafood, etc. We stayed at a friend's apartment, which was right on seven mile beach. You could swim out like 50 feet and there were reefs with tropical fish and what not. Was incredible.

  17. As always, it is not recommended to bring any controversial substance into the airport when travelling overseas. You do not always know how law enforcement will react in foreign countries. In a worst case scenario, you could end up in a stinky prison with no toilets and showers, sharing a cage with rapists and pedophiles.
