Hello all! I'm going to be starting a micro grow soon. Not to sure when because of living situation may be in another state and blah blah blah no one cares about that lmao. So I'll get to the point. I have a old pc tower that is currently in storage but once I do get it out I'm going to strip it and make a pc grow box. It's a 2006 compaq tower. Not sure if that gives much of an idea for space but it's a decent size tower. Now for the insides of it. I don't have a very big budget so I'm going for the decently cheap things. I'm going to get a windshield reflector thing, I can't think of what it's called. But cut that up and use it for the Mylar. The tower will already have a fan, I know of atleast one for sure but if I need to get other fans they are pretty cheap on ebay. I might end up buying a couple fans just in case so I know I have enough intake and outtake. Im going to do the usual power strip and light sockets. I saw a video on youtube where this dude had a piece of plexiglass over his lights so if the plants did get high enough they would touch the plants and burn them so I was thinking about doing that too. Has anyone else done that? How well does it work? When I start I'm going to try and start a topic in the grow journal section to help keep track and also for tips and stuff from others since this will be my first grow! Thats my idea for my box now for the lights and soil and all that happiness lol. Cfls are the most common I see because they are cheaper then others so I'll more then likely go with those. Any preticular kinda I should get? As for watts and lumens and stuff? I know that miracle grow isn't recommended I forget why though. Whats the best soil I can use right out of the bag? I don't have a high budget so I'm trying to keep this as inexspensive as possible. Can I use tap water? Or can I use bottled water? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to nutrients so are there any "must have" nutrients that I should get? Like I said I don't have a big budget to spend so on the cheaper end would be awesome! Any tips on this stuff would be great! I'm open to everything so thanks! I'm excited to start my first grow!!
I like the idea of a piece of clear plastic inferno of the light to stop it growing into it but I think you could train your plants to not grow that high and you will be checking on them everyday so that shouldn't be a problem. for the lights I would say get a pack of 3 20w bulbs and spread them across the top of the case. Soil...I use canna coco which is pretty much like soil so I would say use that if you can afford the nutrients too, I have heard people mention fox farms soil is good bit if you wanted you can get compost in the bag from your local garden shop and that will work. Yes you can use tap water I used to buy bottled water but I didn't see any difference. If you are keen on using nutrients get canna coco and buy the a and b nutrients and that should work just fine. If you are using soil you can buy nutrients of the internet. I'm not too good on what nutrients to use for soil sorry ha ha. Best of luck growing
Yeah I planned on training them just because it's such a small space. Now to find something good to use aha. I have seen a lot of people use fox farms. I might end up using that because they used it straight out the bag. We always have bottled water so thats an option. The tap water smells weird, I'm not sure if that'll affect anything but I didn't know if it was a bad idea to use it or not.
