So, I was getting ready to take and upload some pics to my grow journal that I'm barely trying to get up and running. BUT....noticed that my Nikon Coolpix has seemed to have gone tits up and is not working!

I remember people recommending NOT to take grow related pictures and post them online from your cell phone. Do you all still feel this way?

Im not planning to take the photos, and upload them via the same cell phone. Planning to snap photos on the cell phone, email to myself and then upload them. What do you all think? i don't wanna buy a new camera! LOL...already spent a lot of money (to me) on my grow materials!

I may or may not live in the US, and may or may not be living in a state that has LOW tolerance levels, in terms of legality, to this plant. Also....only growing in a 2x2....and ONLY growing for myself and will NEVER be selling any of it! Part of the reason I stuck to a 2x2, cuz I can only smoke so much (Im a vaper) and don't wanna be tempted to sell off excess harvest! Im a pretty law abiding citizens, beside my desire to grow some herb for myself. So, not really worried about building a case against myself and not too worried about being busted since I won't be telling anyone about my closet project. Pretty sure no one plans on being busted tho!HAHA

  2. As long as you turn off the location services/gps function on your phone it is no less safe than a camera.
You just want to make sure it isn't geo tagging your photos. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter how you post photos. If someone wants to do so bad enough, anything you post can be tracked back to you.

  3. all it takes is an ip adress lol

  4. Screen shot the photo delete the original and upload the screenshot. That's the advise I have read a good few times.

I use a phone camera but we have a couple family members that i live with medicinal marijuana prescriptions. So not to much of a problem there.

  6. ^THIS.
I learned about this in a class on GIS technology for my civil engineering degree. Part of the class was about GNSS (aka GPS) systems and that included cell phone GPS being integrated into geomatics. Modern Smart phones are tracking and geo-referencing everything that their owner does with them by default, but these settings are optional and I highly recommend that GPS services be turned off unless they are needed.

Fun fact about this is that GPS data from cell phones is gathered by the DOT and is used to determine traffic conditions by referencing speed, density, and location of phones on the interstate. So at least some of this tracking is being put to good use.

  7. Will do.

I agree with you too about anything being able to be traced back to you. The world is so dependent on the internet for everything, and this is one of the negatives.

AWESOME! Didn't know that about the DOT.

Makes me glad that i still keep it off all the time unless using it for driving directions! Ill be a little less annoyed now to when I get the Google Prompt asking if they could use my location data! Pops up EVERY damn time i turn on the GPS, and I always click no.

Ill def make sure to keep of GPS.

Ill try out the screenshotting thing too....but isn't that gonna be a similar problem since I'm planning to email myself the pics before posting?

There are a couple tools and apps out there that you can use. An image file has a section in it that has ALL relevant info about a picture. Date it was taken, iso, shutter speed, geo-tagging, etc. This section is called exif. Google an exif editor or cleaner. One that I know of off the top of my head for android is called ez unexif. They're quick and simple to use.

But as mentioned before, simply looking at an up address can pull up a physical address. It's pretfy Easy actually to find out where people are.

  9. Help me how do i upload photos please send me a message on how to noob here

just turn geo tagging off and you will be fine.

Failing that you can open the file with a photo editing app and then save it and choose to not save all exif data

I resize all my photos before uploading, so when I save the file as a new picture, I do not save all the tagged data

  11. As above,

I regularly use my phone. However there is that process. I generally bring the photos to the PC, Remove exif, Archive, and then Resize and forum post :) lol

  12. And then there's a separate toggle for Photos below that
