Does anyone know if it is bad to have worms in your organic soil mixture. In some cases it might improve the soil. indoor or outdoor. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Definitely good. Free calcium carbonate and all the other good things out of their digestive tract that plants love.
their tunnels also add pathways for air and water to travel better in the soil. and what could be better then free supply of worm casting delivered right to the soil? peace!
If it's indoor, you might get worms in the soil from using earthworm castings that haven't had the cocoons screened out of them. The worms can hatch in your soil after it's mixed, but I agree with Chef that they're good as long as you're using large containers. Not bad if you're not, they just probably won't survive. Years ago I tried putting some worms in my pots to help with the aeration like Scooby said, but it turned out that a 3 gallon wasn't big enough. There weren't any worms there anymore when I harvested the plant...most likely they died and decomposed in the dirt, but hey, decomposing worms is more nutrients for the plants I guess. If it's outdoor, hell yeah worms in your soil are a good thing! I'm not able to grow cannabis outdoors right now, but when I'm working in my veggie garden I get a big fucking smile whenever I turn up a big fat nightcrawler. They're masters at aerating soil and pooping gold.
go to you tube and watch some videos on no till growing. Those are your little soldiers in your soil. Do whatever you can to keep them around.
yeah definitely good to have.. i have like an inch of castings under my mulch layer from my little team of worms.. beats topdressing for sure.. just be careful not to let your soil dry out or they'll die pretty quick.
