My Cyco nutrients review

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by keehs, Apr 14, 2015.

  1. So some background on me, my grandfather grew for the longest time.  He then brought my dad in, taught him everything he knew and eventually when I became of age I was brought in.  Ive been growing indoors, outdoors, hoop house and green house for 24 years.

For the longest time we used Canna nutes.  But I would always switch it up a bit.  Not because of Canna's price but because I wanted to break out of the routine.  Growing at a large scale isn't as exciting as many think.  It is true hard work that rewards the skilled and patient.

Whenever I would switch lines I would buy every single bottled additive the manufacturer offered.  Otherwise it wouldn't be fair to judge.

So here's a disclaimer, I hate talking about nutes with other growers.  I'd rather talk about religion, gay rights and edward snowden.  So if your results are different than mine, then kudos to you.  Seriously, kudos.  But just imagine how much better it would be with a better line?

As commercial growing goes, no one is going to change the game.  One plant per bulb in a big ass pot.  And there's usually only 3 or 4 nute lines that can be used.  If your banging out 200 pounds every three months you dont have time to wonder whats wrong with your leaf.  You flush her out, test run off, flush again if you have to and feed half strength.  Again, no one will ever change the game.  None of you will and neither will I.  So lets get that out of the way.  All the large commercial growers I know are using H&G, Canna, Cyco or a true living soil.  These are the best lines to use to avoid oh shit moments.  With H&G and canna you will have to piggy back with a silica bottle and cal mag bottle.  They also produce heavy salts, so a flushing agent is recommended at least once a week or whenever your run off tests high.

I was allowed to experiment in our smaller room.  30 1k hps bulbs and co2.  Plants were in coco (20% perlite) and drowned in 1500ppm co2.  The ladies were in 20 gallon pots.

First one I tried was House and Garden, compared to canna I lost yield.  Enough for me to go back to Canna.

Then I tried xtreme and that was just a terrible nute line.  I'd rather pee in my pots.  Went back to Canna.

Homboldt gave me super low yields and a crazy amount of deficiencies.  How they get away with calling themselves a complete line is beyond me.

FoxFarm was awesome.  Super low yields but the flowers smelled amazing and tasted so good.  Canna never smelled this good ever!  Sadly, open sesame, cha ching and beastie bloomz couldn't build large flowers like canna's boost.  And this isnt for my head stash, I'm a commercial grower and the balance between outstanding quality with great yield needs to be there.

Advanced nutrients, heh advanced my ass.....  Flowers smelled ok, they tasted ok, yields were ok and deficiencies were plenty.  I got what I payed for I guess.

Eventually I tried cyco.  First things first, their 20 liter bottle spout thingies suck ass.  I prefer Canna's and house and gardens.  Any who, this thing has a million freaking bottles and there's some pro's and cons to this.  Pro, with this many bottles getting a deficiency is a bit harder.  Con, mix it right or you will hit a lock up.

So as soon as I finished my cyco grow, I yielded higher than canna.  By a very very large margin.  The buds were not as big as canna's though.  I definitely didn't get baseball bat sized nugs.  But I still yielded higher with buds that were not going to ruin bag appeal.  The flowers were super sparkly, like one of those twilight vampires and the smell rivaled fox farm.

Last year around the summer I started using their new supa stiky additive.  I got a bunch of grows using it under my belt now.  Wow, buds are as big as Canna's.  Maybe even slightly bigger.  The taste is incredible and the smell was just stronger than fox farms.  And that's saying a lot!  Seriously, foxfarm nugs smell outstanding.

In short and to summarize, I have tried just about every nute line out there (there's a few I didn't mention) and for my needs and in my environments (especially outdoors) cyco is far superior than Canna and the rest.  It's also a bit cheaper than canna too, so that's a plus if your strapped for cash.  I challenge you to give it a try.

My family's commercial grow no longer deals with anything except cyco's line.  I don't like their coco though.  I prefer H&G's coco but whatever.

If you guys have any cyco questions please let me know?

PS cyco can lock up very easily.  I recommend you add their silica first.  after its mixed well and your ppms are stable add your B.  After thats mixed well add your A.  then add everything else in any order you want.  Just make sure it mixes well before adding the next pitcher.  Also, don't add calmag one of the bottles has it already.  You will hit toxicity.  oh and if your on well water, find out which bottle has the calmag in it (i honestly forgot) and try it at 50% and gradually raise it, just in case your water's trace amount is a bit too high.

PPS added some pics of my ladies, theyre in 3 weeks of flower here I think.  The one in the 18 gallon blue pot hit week 8 and a half and that pic was taken before I started flushing her.

  2. Forgot to mention. To my knowledge cyco is the only nute company to offer MDSS on all their liquids. Pretty nice to have that kind of transparency.

  3. Crap. Forgot to mention something else. As soon as your 75% into veg (for some that's 3 weeks) you add the growXL. I warn you, don't add it if your into a hands off kind of garden. Your plants will stretch! Those of us in scrogs (due to ceiling hieght, I scrog in two of my rooms) will be furiously tucking under the net.

Also. Add the grow xl after all your nutes are mixed but before you ph. The grow xl will drop your ph into the 4's. I also recommend a nice flush before adding it. And another flush at least a week after the flip.

  5. Wow serious selection of nutes man, I don't think I could cope with mixing up all those for a 30 light show. Respect to u and yours for the hard work! Shedhead.

  6. It's not as hard as it looks. It's a bit of a hassle though. So far it's proven to be reliable and very complete. Worse part is grabbing a new 20 liter container and removing the plug so you can screw in the damn spout

  7. I can imagine it would be a mission but like u said the results speak for themselves. I'm a tight git mind I started off on plant magic had a deficiency cause the grow shop only gave me one part of a two part line,I only noticed half way through when my plants looked like shit and I had to call my mate in who's equip I was using for a diagnosis. Got there in the end tho but things could of been better.that was my second grow in 20yrs lol.i been at it now and upgrading my equip for close on three yrs.i only use ionic grow, bloom and pk boost with some cal mag thrown in as im in coco.ive been lurking here and there for ages gleaming info of anyone who had it going on.soz for the long post and thanks for the reply, respect Shedhead. I'm uk based and wish I was born in the ole usa as in some places the old bill are tolerant of our hobby/livelihood only decent income I can get. Thanks again shed.

  8. Nice plants man. Great to hear the cyco is working out. I have thought about trying for a while. I'm using the canna line. I must say my plants have never done better since changing to Canna . I'm doing a bit of a comparison at the moment with H&G .

  9. Love it bro!
I have been using cyco for a bit now, love it.
I got a great deal on it. No one was buying it from the local hydro store so they sold everything they had to me for a grand. Saved about 2 thousand on it. They were missing some jugs. Silica, cleanse, and supa sticky I believe. I actually still need to order them.

The best part about them is there clean nutrients.

Thanks for the info, your grow is effin huge! How many watts are running in that room?

  10. i used the cyco xl didnt ph it was the worst day of my life i learned about low ph .

  11. Hey Keehs Are you still around? I have a couple questions I would like to ask about these nutes.

  12. Hi guys, yes Cyco is an excellent company which use pharma grade nutes compared too horticultural ones. So in essence we have less heavy metal contaminants in our end product.

My question is guys I haven’t got much money. I needed some one too po8nt me out too the best possible additives please. I can only afford a few.

  13. Great review, I was honestly going to try this set next. But then I just read that cyco a and b have bad PGRs in them.. you guys know anything about that? I was seriously amped on your review to try these nutes out next but now I’m hesitant. Here’s the link:

    FAQs: Say No to PGRs

Not trying to poop on this thread but thought you guys would like to know.

  14. What's the best flip week 1 week 2 week 3 cyco bloom nutirents mix
Also what's the best for weeks 4 thru 8 all Cyco nutes?

I have everything but cyco xl

  15. Impressive stuff here! Thanks for sharing your experiences.

  16. Is this a single shot application or is it used for the duration of the week that you introduce it ? The directions arent exact as far as i can see.

  17. This threads a year old, so I don't think they'll post in this, but who knows.

I've been using CYCO for the last month and a half, but I'm definitely not experienced, just know what I'm doing is working.

Swapped to the bloom nutes with an introductory gallon mixed in with some of my veg nutes to slowly introduce it. Everyone I've met/talked to/read their posts, including the CYCO rep, suggested doing this about a week to ten days before you run 12/12.

So for my plant, which is using a single 5 gal dwc bucket: it drinks about a gallon of water every two/three days so I began with 5ml bloom(a/b) nutes in a gal of water mixed, then I'd mix it in with the full strength of grow (a/b) that was already there in the reservoir then adjust pH. And as you go, you slowly ramp up.
I've been on 12/12 for a few days, but was at full strength bloom by about 3 days into it, but that's just my experience. I've found you can do full strength pretty quick with CYCO, but I'd be careful before blindly following and make sure your plants can handle it.
I don't know if this is for sure how it works or the best way, but it's doing great for mine.

    Good luck
