Can you tell if seeds are male or female?

  1. Just wondering...

  2. no

    unless its feminized

but you still cant tell by looks...

  3. There is a video online that shows how to sex seeds based on how the end that connected to the plant looks. If it's pointy at both ends it's supposed to be male. A round crater at one end is supposed to be female. They say out of every ten seeds a couple will be for sure female, a a couple will be for sure male, and the rest are determined by environment, temps, nitrogen, pot size, light spectrum all
play a role in how many males to females you will get.

I plan to check every seed I plant over the next few years to see if there is any truth to the info Ive seen. Until then take this for what it's worth. Just a possibility.

Can you tell if it's a boy or girl by looking at the embryo? They need to be germinated before you could determine the sex. Sometimes you could end up with a plant that have both sex. Good luck on growing freedom...B)

  6. alot of people say this is tru but i know of a few blades that have tested this and it doesnt work, im due to test this method fo routdoor this year.

  7. Is that quote true? I thought you could hermie a female but the sex is pre-determined?

  8. Ok thanks for your answers :D

I personally say that's BS. The sex of the seeds are set is stone imo.

You can change the sex of a seed like how he mentions.
I have always called BS on those statements and always will untill i see scientific proof.

I can explain and pick that statement to pieces if you want to know my reasons.

  10. I guess it's hard to prove either way without a large scale experiment.

The one that hermie are the seeds who's sex is determined by enviroment.

  12.

  13. Do you have any info that suggests otherwise? ^^^ smart ass eye rolls don't contribute much to the conversation.

  14. I don't think so, but what mjmama25 is saying sure is interesting.

I'm skepticle that the seeds can be sexed by looking at them or everyone would be doing it. Still worth a try because if it doesn't work that just takes me back to the same 50/50 odds i was at before. But I am confident in the fact that some seeds gender can be influenced by environment. Its been proven in a few studies that things like pot size and temps can influence the number of females. It's definitely not all set in stone.

  16. This is borrowed from another site.

Some of the factors affecting the plant's sex are purely environmental and they are particularly hard to control especially when growing outdoors.

1.\tHumidity: When the surrounding humidity is high then female plants are more likely to develop. Conversely, a low humidity level increases the chance of developing male plants. Also, if the moisture level of the growing medium is low then male plants are likely to happen. The same condition goes for the seedbed's moistness.

2.\tTemperature: If the temperature is low then the grower is more likely to have female plants in his garden. However, if the temperature is high more male marijuana plants will emerge.

3.\tNitrogen: To have more females in your cannabis garden, increase nitrogen (N) level. A low nitrogen level will likely create more males.

4.\tPotassium: Unlike nitrogen, a lower concentration of Potassium (K) will promote the development of female cannabis plants. Oppositely, a higher Potassium level will increase the tendency of having males.

5.\tEnvironmental Stress: If your seedlings are subjected to any kind of environmental stress then they will likely turn out as males as they mature.

6.\tColor of Light: A light with blue spectrum generally increases the likelihood of having females, while a red light is favorable if males are wanted.

7.\tHours of Daylight: The photoperiod or length of light exposure influences the sex. If seedlings are exposed for about 14 hours then more females will develop. On the other hand, a photoperiod of 18 hours or more will tend to generate more male plants.

8.\tSoaking: When the seeds are pre-soaked in Gibberellic acid prior to germination then they will most likely become female cannabis plants when they are fully matured.

  17. By looking at it, I could only see three males! lol

  19. There you go posting tons of useful information again. Yes most likely. More likely to get more females is a good thing incase you're having trouble with reading and comprehension.

Spring really brings the trolls out from under their bridges. I like talking about growing whether we agree or disagree. Post something opposing my ideas if you have any info or experience. But posting condescending smileys with no useful info isn't going to get you many friends. I certainly don't give a fuck about your opinion at this point. Anyone with something to say would have already said if. Like Chef posted valid comments. You seem like you're just on GC for a babysitter.
