Indoor Autoflower CFL Grow (1st Time)

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by aurorasouthernlights, Apr 13, 2015.

  1. Starting my first grow since 2011. The first grow I was involved in was less hands on and I was more or less an observer. First time going solo, very excited!

    Strains:
Cream of the Crop - Amphetamine Auto
NYC Diesel x Ruderalis, mainly Indica THC: 16%
    Seed to flower: 45-50 days
    (purple pot)

Pyramid Seeds- New York City Auto
    Sativa- 70% Indica- 30%
    THC: 17%
    Flowering: 70-80 days
    (blue pot)

Each seed was germinated in a Tupperware container inside moist, paper towels. After two days, the seeds had sprouted root tips and were planted in 5 gallons pots.
The pots are filled with Miracle Grow Organic Choice potting soil (3 parts) and Perlite (1 part).
The pots were watered and placed underneath 3 CFL lights bulbs per pot. The seeds were put about an inch into the soil then carefully covered back up.

The light bulbs are 6500k, day lights. 23 watts each (100w equivalent) and 1600 lumens each bulb.
Total for each plant: 69 watts, 4800 lumens.
These bulbs will remain the only type during the vegetative stage. Once flowering, soft white lights will be incorporated into the grow.
Light cycle: 24/0. They will receive 24 hours of light each day until they start flowering.

Right now the room is at about 54% humidity and 81 degrees Fahrenheit. There is a fan running but it will be moved soon so it can be blowing directly onto the pots, hopefully cooling it down a few degrees.

Very patiently waiting for these babies to sprout out of the soil! Shamelessly checking every morning first thing after a cup of Joe. Let's do this mane!

  2. The Auto New York City has sprouted! Beautiful.
The room is cooled to 76 degrees F and the humidity is at 56%.
The second one has yet to sprout but I am optimistic!

  3. All right ladies and gentlemen we are 10 days into the autoflower grow.
The Amphetamine was slightly stunted right after germination but is growing beautifully.
The NY City is absolutely stunning with the 5 leaflets coming in pretty prominently.

They got a little warm last night because we had the doors closed (we had guests). They curled just a little but now that we have it opened back up they are back to normal.

Still haven't watered them yet but the soil is still pretty moist. Dry about maybe a 1/2 inch into the soil only.

  4. Quick question.

Just checked and the leaves are just slightly curled up in a few places (can be observed in picture on last post-blue pot). Could this be because of the heat or do they need watered?
The room is at 79 degree F so I'm going to cool the place down some more to try to get it around the 76-77 range.

  5. This is pretty neat! can't wait to see how big they grow :D

  6. Thank you! Today is watering day for the larger one. Soil is fairly dry about an inch deep! Heading to pick up some distilled water later. Very excited!
Also have my buddy coming sell my his pH kit and Fox Farm nutes (not using for a while)
    Perfect timing for watering!

  7. Day 12:
So much growth on the Auto New York! (blue pot)
I am impressed with how well it has gone.

The Amphetamine is doing very well also considering it
was stunted a bit at first. (purple pot)

No signs of the sex yet and the NY is getting watered today.
Just plain water and I will test the pH. Should be around neutral since
they are gallons of purified water from the store.

  8. I won't be adding any nutrients to the watering. Not until at least 3 weeks or so and even then I am doing a light dose.
I don't want to burn these little babies and considering they are luscious green I am not worried about any deficiencies yet.
If they start showing signs of deficiencies I will add nutes earlier but I highly doubt they will.

First nutes to use will be Fox Farm. I have Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, and All purpose plant food. Any tips on which ones to use first ?

I think I read somewhere that I should use ones where NPK values are equal or the N values are higher for the veg state.
    Can anyone confirm?

  9. Watered them yesterday. They seemed to have responded very well to it!
We have some serious growth on the NY auto. Seven leaflets are coming in prominently and they are luscious and green.
So happy they are healthy and strong.
Adding two more lights to each plant soon!
Adding soft white lights to it even though they aren't flowering yet.
    Two each at 2700K.
Pictures coming soon once setup is complete.

Let me know what y'all think of the grow so far!
    Comments, tips, appreciated.

  10. Grow big is for the vegetative state, tiger bloom is for flowering. You can do a mixture of both for most of the middle of the grow. Switch to only tigerbloom maybe after a week or 2 of flowering.
I'd also look into getting fox farm big bloom. Normally they come in as a 3 pack, but you only have two of them.
Big bloom is normally supplemented throughout the entire grow, but its not necessary.

Remember, adding nutes to your water will make it very acidic. You will need pH Up solution for sure.

  11. I have big bloom also. Thank you for the tips!

  12.  LMAO! I just realized who you were.
Sup Araltus? I am posting pictures right after this post. I haven't added any nutes yet.
I have a pH test solution but I don't have pH up or down.
I read online somewhere that I could use baking soda for down and vinegar for up, thoughts?

  13. Day 17!
GOOD GOD THEY ARE GETTING BIG! Lol
The room is averaging around 76-77 degrees F and about 50% humidity [IMG]
I have two fans in the room now lightly blowing on both of them. One fan wasn't enough for both plants.
I upped the lights! There are now 4, 6500K lights on each plant.
The NY auto has an extra light, a 2700K bulb to get extra light on the bottom of the plant.

Total for NY auto: 7,600 lumens, 115 watts

    043015(3).jpg

     Amphetamine: 6,400 lumens, 92 watts

    YOOOOOOOOOOOO lol.
Baking soda is basically sodium bicarbonate, its typically used as a buffer. You have that backwards though, baking soda(basic) for pH up, vinger(acid) for down [IMG]

So just from what i read, ya baking soda sounds just fine to use. You should never need to make your solution more acidic unless you overshoot

Also, here is a break down for the fox farm nutes, general guideline feeding schedule. http://foxfarmfertilizer.com/images/pdf/soilenglish2015.pdf

Don't take the amounts verbatim, it's always good to start 1/4-1/2 strength nutes and work your way up. But this gives you a good idea of a time line and the mix of when to use tiger bloom/grow big/big bloom. You will be able to read the plant as far as deficiencies go, but nute burn can be just as bad. Chances are the soil itself has a fair amount of nutes already, and considering its 5 gallons, that should last a while. Im assuming you havent fed them yet? They look healthy and greeen weeeeeeee!

  15. happy growing. This is recent from a close friend hehehehe

  16. So beautiful!!!!!!
I'm afraid my lights aren't enough. I have 5 bulbs per plant at the moment but they keep getting bigger!
Definitely flowering too because the aroma..pretty prominent now. There are a few trichomes on the amphetamine and there is a tiny one on the NY auto. But makes sense cause the Ampethamine is supposed to grow very rapidly..45 days until harvest! Lol suckers fast.

I'll read up on the nutes for sure. I haven't given them any yet because the soil definitely had some and they still look very healthy! No need to burn them.. I know better lol.

  17. For as beautiful as my plants are you'd think I'd have more people following my grow...im just a noob in the grow world it seems lol.

  18. Your funny

  19. Here for the lols
