do we live in a rape culture?

  1. not sure a dolce & gabana advertisement represents the majority of people. it could as easily represent a gang bang. some girls love it[IMG]

not sure what the implication has to do with anything. dennis himself even says that no means no. the humor is derived from what a scumbag dennis is for coming up with such a plan.

  2. Things must be very different where you are... Never in my life have I heard someone non chalantly mention rape, or any other heinous crime in my area or anywhere I have ever been. That's some fucked up shit right there. Maybe things are really that bad in the US or other places... Move to a small town somewhere in Canada. We don't have these issues.

  3. We have a "look pretty and youll be a mommy culture"

Thats why some hot chicks from hs will be single well into their 30's

This,   except they really are not other than the media and social frenzy has gotten a hold of definitions.

"Kevin looking at  attractive and scantly clad Stacy for half a second at the grocery store = rape, because....women are treated poorly in stone age countries."

  5. It's condescending to think that poking the collective male population in the forehead and saying "Rape is bad!" is going to solve anything. Rapists know just as well as you or I that rape is wrong. The problem is that they don't care. Campaigning against rape is a nice sentiment, but it's also preaching to the converted. Everyone just says, "Yes, that's a position I can support," and eventually we move on to the next thing.

Whether it's a drooling psychopath in a dark alley or a frat bro with a polo shirt, if they haven't absorbed the message by this point, there's nothing that's going to help them. That's why you have to behave responsibly, keep your wits about you, and have friends that you can rely on if you need help. You don't have to go through life jumping at shadows and wearing a rape whistle around your neck, but just be aware that there are bad people in the world.

It's the whole idea behind driving defensively. You may be confident in your ability to drive, but you can't control the cars around you. So you have to make responsible choices with the knowledge that someone around you may not be acting with your personal safety in mind.

  6.
You expect shit to get better for them after their looks start leaving them?

  7. I feel like I contradicted myself a bit there unintentionally... The "local campus'" I was talking about are in the city. I live far outside the city in a small town. We don't have the problems outside the city like they do around the city campus'.

You guys are too caught up on actual rape. That's not what rape culture is about.

"Psychopath" is archaic. What you actually mean is Anti-Social Personality Disorder. I'm not trying to nitpick. This is a big deal.

It's just related by reference to the "implications" of the picture. I can't believe you're defending Dennis or anyone on It's Always Sunny for that matter. Speaking of Anti-Socials, Dennis is the embodiment of a Narcissistic Anti-Social. It very, very heavily implied that he is at the very least a serial rapist and would kill given the chance. "My tools!", "Jesus, D, you haven't even thought of the smell you stupid bitch".

  9. I dont. Its more like them expecting looks alone to bring on this fantasy disney life.

What im getting at is our culture here in the US doesnt raise strong women. Sometimes it seems looked down upon.

  10. Psychopath fits.

It is defined as :    A person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior.     Raping someone seems pretty abnormal and violent social behavior.

I'm saying that is wrong by every medical standard. It's a word wrongly used for Anti-Social Personality Disorder. It's an old, old term that frankly if anyone uses you know instantly they have no validity in the field and know nothing about psychology outside Freud and what's wrongful common knowledge from before the 70's.

  12. In what aspect of US/1st world in general culture does that really, as in actual reality, not what the media tells people reality is, happen?
I get it on a historical level.  It has obviously been a man's world, no one with even the most rudimentary understanding of history can claim that that has not been the case.    But where in modern day society, what college campus, what employment agency, what company's official stance is   "This is a hard job/degree.  We only think a man should go for it and it is too much for a mere woman to handle."    Point me to the part of 1st world mainstream culture that believes that.

Meanwhile women graduate more than men, get employed more than men, are heavily favored in divorce cases, a woman is most likely about to become president, and every sitcom father is a blabbering idiot thanking his lucky stars he met his wife.

Firstly, your quotation of me did not show up in my notifications(even after refresh while looking at the quotation of myself), admins take notice please.

The depth to which the culture is within American society after 50 Shades of Grey is exceptional, and it comes from just like in the past with porn, making these acts appear erotic even though they are not related. Are people that mindless and susceptible to media? It appears so but I would have never believed it to that depth, and it makes me wonder what goes on in a female's mind to submit so wholly. Is it because it is in female nature to submit? Or is it that media depicted it in a manner that added erotic stimuli and then manipulated the event to that which is sexualized by fooling the mind with placed stimuli. That seems like the easiest and best way.

  14. I agree that the term is basic and thrown around but in this case it fits.   I don't claim any expert psychological knowledge, but calling a rapist a psychopath is accurate.    Obviously their flavor of psychosis, causes, effects, etc is broken down in finer detail by those more psychologically apt, but based on the definition of the word psychopath, in the English language, partly precisely because it is so broad encompassing,  someone raping people is one.

As autismal as it makes me I'll accept that. I guess how some people are politically correct, I'm "academically correct". There aren't "psychos" anymore, psychopaths don't exist in the sense that they use to. We know more now.

  16.
I editted your quote in after the post. Thanks for confirming it doesn't notify though. I have no clue what the deal is with 50 Shades of Gray. People kept referencing it in my abnormal psych class that was on sexuality last week and it went beyond me. The fuck is up with this book?

  17. There was a time when I would've said "nah" to this, but after reading some of the posts in the love/sex forum here, I have to think that we do.

  18.
    Anecdotal evidence.

Oh buddy, you have to watch this movie. You don't even have to read the book to catch the main ideas. It is basically a really rich, powerful, and talented man finds this naive young female who is fairly intelligent and well-read. Then just treats her weird as fuck, there is this one room where they have sex(which is basically just him starting by slamming into her every time [IMG] ) and do acts of domination and humiliation. But also in this room are all these all these objects used to perform the various acts of sex, domination, and humiliation, on the walls, on stands in the room, a multitude. The young woman is not allowed to sleep with him, she has her own room and is to sleep alone after their sexual interaction. She has rules to follow which he laid forth, these rules are derived from a contract she must sign to enter a relationship with him. In it are all sorts of rules and guidelines for proper health, and what is off limits and what is acceptable. It is basically just a classic example of a controlling and abusive relationship, as well as a dysfunctional relationship.

Jesus Christ. I was talking to a girl for a minute and she mentioned this being her favorite book and really pushed it. It should have been a red flag at the time. I'm not sure if I dodge a bullet or a total freak in the sheets. Ah, I fucked up.
