4 or 6 clones under 600w in 4x4

  1. Hey,

I just cut down a fairly successful indoor grow where I pulled about 12-13 ounces down grown under a 600w light. I had three plants, one Dynamite, one Kosher Kush and a White Grapes.

Before flipping to flower I took a  number of cuts of WG and KK, I have since given a few away leaving me with 8, I plan to keep one of each as a mother, which gives me up to six clones which I can throw into this run. The clones are all about three months old (I flowered for ten weeks and cut down about a week ago), have been under 110w of T5's and are still in solo cups.

My original plan was to run with all 6 clones in 10 or 15 litre containers with a 3 or 4 week veg, but I am a little worried this might overcrowd my space a bit, and/or result in more B grade buds than running 4 plants in 20litre containers with a slightly longer veg.

I recently started full time study and am also a little worried that 6 plants could start eating up a decent chunk more of my time than 4 would.

My space is 4x4 (1.2mx1.2m), and I run 600w with a 5 inch centrifugal fan, not air cooled. I have a small inline fan for air intake and do not supplement my grow with C02. I run a coco/perlite mix of 70/30 as my grow medium.

Basically, I want to know whether people think I should run 4 or 6 clones, and how long I should veg them for and what container size to use, bearing in mind that the clones are fairly old and about a foot tall, and that Kosher Kush tends to be a stretchy bitch.

Also, I am used to potting up gradually, but was wondering what others thought on transplanting straight from solo cups into the final container of 15-20 litres? Is it possible and are there any disadvantages to doing so?

  2. Seeing as how I've done 30 plants in a space similar to yours, I'd probably lean toward six plants, but it sounds like you're real good at growing just a few large plants. Up to you!

I wouldn't say six plants is necessarily more work than four slightly larger plants in a space the same size, so I'd factor that out of your decision.

    Good luck!

I should probably mention at this point that I hand water to waste with about 10-20% run off, so every day I have to take the plants out of the tent, water them and wait for them to drain, I can't see how doing 6 instead of 4 wouldn't eat up at least slightly more of my time.

I do enjoy growing fewer, larger plants. Unfortunately, the strains I am currently working with take 2-3 weeks longer to flower than some I have previously worked with indoors, because of this, I am really trying to knock that off of my veg period so I can be harvesting in a similar amount of time.

I don't really have the funds to set up a drip feed system, it has crossed my mind that perhaps I could set up some kind of system where I can hand water to waste in the actual grow tent and have some water pumps and tubing take my run off water out of the tent and dump it into some kind of res, but it occurs to me that since my tent only has two entrances it would be rather difficult to get to some of my plants to hand water them in this kind of set up.

I am curious how long you vegged those 30 plants for, what container size you used and what your yield was, if you don't mind sharing. :D

  4. I would do 4, but veg them a little longer so they get bigger. Then i would work on upgrading your watering system so its not so labor intensive. Check out blumats.

  5. Look into trays to collect the water. I like hempy buckets with plastic shoe boxs from the dollar store. Get a shop vac and suck up what drained out. No more moving the babies. Hope that helps.
