Has anyone noticed how similar the feeling ou get after exercise is to marijuana?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by obcity, Apr 1, 2015.

  1. I've always noticed how after exercise I feel great. I know its because endorphins are released to make you feel good (some people call it a runners high). Has anyone else noticed how similar the feeling you get after exercise is to a low dose of marijuana? I feel kinda high after I work out but without any of the side effects I get from using cannabis.

  2. I definitely feel a buzz after a good lift or run. Fell of the train hard, but i know once i get going again, ill remember how good it feels and never go back to being this semi potato I've become.
But yep, mood is up and i feel light and floaty sometimes. Consuming cannabis after a workout is amazing.
    You just..drift.....away.. [IMG]

  3. Ya I love a joint after working out. Its the perfect reward. I find smoking too often makes me work out less though, I get lazy.

  4. That endorphin release, sure.  It's why a cold beer (or five) tastes so good after you have busted your hump doing physical labor and sweating through your shirt.

  5. I don't remember what exercise feels like

  6. are we getting an endocannabinoid workout from consuming cannabis?  could be....

  7. I personally like to get high before I work out.  There is something about taking a puff and walking.  Before I know it, I've walked five miles and I feel like I hardly exercised.

  8. or even better smoking and surfing/swimming

  9. It's true that with weed, very often "less is more!"

  10. I like a tiny puff before a run.  I'm just so much more aware of how my body is working and can make adjustments to my speed and rhythm to make the run more enjoyable.  Smoking before surfing or snowboarding, nothing better.

  11. Oh yeah!![IMG]  I've been smoking before training since 1968. I'm habitual at working out and that's never changed in 47 years. Actually I call it "exorcising the demons" cause that's how it feels before n after. My neuro issues have improved a lot over the years n the medical marijuana helps tremendously in keeping my "demons" at bay. The two, cannabis n working out, are a perfect combo [IMG]

The reason that the feelings are similar is that the body produces more anandamide during and after exercise.

This endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and in high enough concentrations causes the feeling known as "runner's high."

The THC molecule is shaped like anandamide, and it can pass through the blood-brain barrier like endocannabinoids. Because it is more persistent in the body, (runner's high is short-lived from my experience) THC produces powerful euphoric, relaxation, and pain relieving effects.

iI's no coincidence that humans were able to find hundreds of medicinal plants that benefit us in ways to treat most ailments.  Cannabis reduced my convulsions to a manageable level and allow me to sleep without toxic pills.  It's a blessing.
