Hydro setup

  1. New grower here. How's this for a quick setup?
4x5 lighthouse grow tent, Mars dual switch led, tao tronics single bulb, uvb reptile bulb. This is the 3rd week from sprout. I got some auto jack, pineapple express, papaya something, all fem auto. It's a flood and drain setup.

  2. Nice, easy set up bud, is this your first attempt at it? if so you have done well :)

  3. a little too quick imo

    those plants aren't too happy

    look overwatered

are those starter plugs in your hydroton?

if you have an led, those other bulbs aren't doin anything but runnin up your electric bill

  4. It looks like your rockwool cubes are staying way to wet and the roots aren't getting enough oxygen.

Those are very small for being in the 3rd week. The size looks more like 7-10 days worth of growth.

I stopped using rockwool cubes in E&F for the very reason you are experiencing. If the cubes are too deep, they stay way too wet; too shallow and they dry out too much.

Rockwool is a great medium for NFT, but doesn't drain nearly fast enough for E&F if you submerge it during floods (in my experience).

I've been growing in flood tables for over 20 years, and over the years I've learned what works well and what doesn't work well.

  5. Those starter plugs will cause all kinds of issues, hydro is meant to keep soil out of the grow room.

  6. I have the same light. How you liking it so far?

Yes, whatever you used to start them is definitely stunting root growth and stressing the plants.

These are 3 weeks from the day the seeds germinated.

  8. Thanks for the info str8jacket. Yeah, I had them in soil plugs and was slowly breaking up the soil and cleaning the system. A lot of them have some long roots. I went ahead and rinsed all the soil off the roots, so it's just set in the clay rocks. The led is a mars 160w.

looks legit.... I'm never a big fan of multiple root zones in the same reservoir....I'd recommend a single bucket per each plant. they can get tangled, ripped, and compete for air and nutrients if in the same reservoir.  Speaking of....what type of nutrients do you plan on using for your hydro?

Over watered?  the root zone is sitting in water..... I'd guess the pH is off or the water has a high PPM count which could account for the leaf tip curl.

  10. I'm using the fox farm trio, ph is finally at 5.5-6.5, it was in the 7.5 range.
I boosted the nitrogen and 3 plants that were dying, shot back and are filling out.
