brain damage?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by andy85258, Mar 30, 2015.

  1. So my mother, doing her usual bout of fear mongering. Told me that taking more than one hit whenever you smoke can cause brain problems. She claimed this after sitting in with some addiction counseling group for her internship in the medical field. Now I'm not really inclined to believe this but it harshest my vibe so I'd like some definite answers as to whether this is actually true or not.

  2. Have you not seen Reefer Madness?

  4. does it look like snoop got a brain problem? no, does any other stoners known to us have problems? nope!

  5. .

Lol that's what I've been thinking. But then again who knows where they get their weed from.

  6. I mean, it would kill brain cells if you smoked about 63 fat joints of some Columbian gold weed, through a gas mask, without additional oxygen, all in about 5 minutes, everyday, for 3 months. Then you would see some brain damage, but not because of the marijuana at all, but because of all the smoke and lack of oxygen.
That's what they did to monkeys to test whether it kills brain cells. Marijuana does not kill brain cells at all. Only the smoke would do any damage, but there's also vapes, concentrates, and edibles. Marijuana can actually stimulate brain cells.
You should watch 'The Union', it's a great documentary. Definitely worth the watch.

  7. mental illness is very easily abused both physically and forcefully. The challenge is, why do you believe your doctor(s)? How is an intangible feature of life diagnosed as problematic?

Cannabis does not lead to any neurological damage in the brain whatsoever. The government and many other sources straight up lie about marijuana because they are uneducated and believe it themselves without solid proof. As stated before there was a SINGLE study that ALL organizations anti-cannabis used as a prime argument; a set of monkeys were given a set amount of marijuana in gas masks daily and the results showed brain damage due to the prolonged use. However no one thought to mention that the monkeys were literally deprived from Oxygen for very prolonged periods and only given smoke to inhale. Think about that for a moment and answer your question OP.

  10. Neuropsychiatrist and Director of the Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR) at the University of California, San Diego Dr. Igor Grant is interested in the short and long-term neuropsychiatric effects of marijuana use. The CMCR has overseen some of the most extensive research on the therapeutic effects of medical marijuana in the U.S. "Despite a commonly held view that cannabis use results in brain damage, meta analyses of extensive neurocognitive studies fail to demonstrate meaningful cognitive declines among recreational users," says Dr. Grant. "Bain imaging has produced variable results, with the best designed studies showing null findings."

Doesn't kill brain cells or lower IQ.

  11. "Daily pot use not associated with brain shrinkage: Colorado study" (Reuters - Feb 4, 2015) where "We found no evidence of differences in volumes of the accumbens, amygdala, hippocampus or cerebellum between daily versus non-users, in adults or adolescents," Hutchison's paper said, referring to parts of the brain."

Do you do anything like ride a bike, play rough sports, or even drive a car? Anything that puts you at risk for a brain trauma? Ask Mom is she would want you doing something that greatly increases your odds of surviving a brain trauma.

“How MEDlCAL MARlJUANA'S Chemicals May Protect Cells” (Scientific American- Vol 312, Issue 2- Jan 2015)   “trauma surgeon David Plurad and his colleagues did a retrospective review of 446 traumatic brain injury (TBI) cases treated at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center from January 2010 through December 2012. Their study, reported in the journal American Surgeon, found that 82 of those patients tested positive for THC and two of them died, for a mortality rate of 2.4 percent. The mortality rate among the 364 patients who did not have THC in their system was 11.5 percent, nearly five times higher. After taking into account other factors, such as age, severity of injury and blood alcohol level, the researchers concluded that the link between THC and a lower death rate in these patients stood up.”

Anyone in your family ever get Alzheimer's? THC works better than Aricept at preventing the deposit of amyloid plaque-

“THC blocks an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which speeds the formation of amyloid plaque in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's drugs Aricept and Cognex work by blocking acetylcholinesterase. When tested at double the concentration of THC, Aricept blocked plaque formation only 22% as well as THC, and Cognex blocked plaque formation only 7% as well as THC.” From “Marijuana May Slow Alzheimer's” WebMD.

  13. hahahahahahahahahahha ^ THIS

When I was still living with the rents, my mom was the EXACT SAME.  There was no convincing her.  All the solid evidence in the world couldn't change her mind that smoking weed made you a shitty person, ruined your life, etc.  She was going through the nursing program at one of the local colleges and suddenly she was a fucking expert in health 2 months in.

  14. My mom was the exact same, luckily for me, massive amounts of cannabis research proved otherwise.

She accepted my pot smoking probably 10 years after she knew I was smoking.

Now she jokes about it, and somewhat has a distrust for the media. Haha

  15. It depends on what you consider as brain damage. Hell, holding your breath long enough can kill off a few brain cells here or there but your not going to end up catatonic.

  16. It damaged my brain. Now I can no longer blindly follow orders from authority figures and I have an incessant need to question everything.

Oh lawd why did I take that first puff?!?

  17. Ok my aunt was head of a big rehab in texas (she is retired) but I asked her what was the "rehab" thinking and she said that they are going with weed because it is harm reduction being the least damage that a drug can do..even rx drugs..tell your mom to ask about harm reduction
