Hello. I'm in coco at about week 6/7 of flower. Ive been feeding a 4 gallon res solution with 10 ml calmag, 25 ml flora nova bloom, and 40 ml liquid kool bloom bulking. This mixture brings my ppms to around 1100-1200. I recently started using kool bloom ripening powder to replace my bulking formula. It says 1/4 teaspoon per gallon so I use just 1 full teaspoon. Problem is with keeping everything else the same my ppms are only 900. Even with adding another 1/2 teaspoon it only raised it to 960. Should I not look at ppms while using this powder? Ive never used powder b4. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  2. I'm a bit confused. You're trying to get you're nutrient concentration to some arbitrary PPM number?

More nutrients doesn't automatically equate to better bud production. Sometimes more=less and less=more.

Keeping a plant healthy and vigorous is the way to maximize the potential of the strain. Different strains/varieties have completely different nutrient needs. There is no one size fits all nutrient regimen to maximize yield, and there is definitely no direct relationship between higher PPM and better quality or yield.

Well I just recently switched from organics to coco. So I'm still a little new to hydro style feeding.... I thought ppm what a way of tracking the strength you were using.

  4. Yes, it is a way of 'tracking the strength you are using', and if you have a circulating system with a reservoir, the change in PPM and pH over time are good indicators of how closely you are dialed in terms of matching what the plants need.

By itself, it's just an arbitrary number. Your plants have all kinds of ways of telling you if they like the nutrient regimen / balance.

These were running at around 775 PPM, and I'm backing down to just over 700 because the sour grape strain is showing signs that the nutrients are too strong (although the others are fine). The sour grape is the main pheno that I'm going to continue propagating, so I have to cater to its needs.

Thank you for the example. I am running a drain to waste system and I water 3 gallon smart pots twice a day with about 2 or 3L of water. The guides I have read about using a dtw coco system were calling for 1000-1200 ppm waterings in mid flower. Maybe I'll dial it back but I just was wondering about how the powder forms work since it wasn't changing the ppm very much.
