YO-YO

  1. any string riders here?

it might be a temporary thing, but i picked up a couple yo-yos at a toy store a few days ago with my kids. i remember yo-yos being pretty hot for a while when i was about 13 or so in the late 90's. i got a Duncan Butterfly XT, ball bearing, wide gap for string tricks doesnt sleep for very long though. also got a Duncan Bumblebee. i remember that yoyo when it was sold by PlayMaxx and sold as the Bumble Bee GT. still has the cork "brake pads" for response. great loop yoyo. i remember only a few tricks on each though. anyone else here throw a little yoyo?

  2. Had one back in high school but a teacher confiscated it(aka stole it).  Wish I still had it, maybe I'll pick one up soon just for the hell of it.

  3. the world of yoyo has changed a hell of a lot since i last had a few yoyos! i had only ever seen plastic yoyos of all types. then recently i started seeing aluminum yoyos. most of which are unresponsive(dont come up with a tug of the string) and they allow for some pretty crazy tricks. i thenn proceeded to order an aluminum yoyo from Yoyo Factory called the DV888. i ordered a gold one. i dont intend on going super hard with it, but i would like to try to learn a few intermediate string tricks.

^^ Damn that guy has got some serious skills.

I remember owning a Brain yoyo when I was a kid. I'd bring it to school to show off to my friends. And I'd also try and learn cool tricks like the one where you make the yoyo walk along the ground and then spin back up. Can't say I have one anymore, but it was fun while it lasted.

On a more loosely related note, there is a character in Yu Yu Hakusho who uses yoyos as part of his fighting technique. It's pretty ridiculous, but he's a pretty cool character.

They were popular when I was in 4th-5th grade in the late 90s.

I bought a Yo-yo Jam Dark Magic II a couple years back because I was feeling nostalgic. It's a pretty decent yo yo minus the fact amazon sent me a pink one. I think I paid like $10 for it but now they're $40.

I need to buy a Yomega Firestorm because that's the Yo-yo I had when I was a kid.

  7. i remember the Firestorm. my first yo-yo was an X-Brain. then i got this really cool yo-yo with a built in speedometer. it had a ball bearing on the axle so it would sleep for a long time, but if you didnt throw it right, it would snap back up the string and smash your hand. i remember it was a little bigger than my other yoyos. i could throw over 200mph consistently. i always wondered if it was even remotely accurate...
