small grow in veg, looking for tips?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Josh4g63, Mar 28, 2015.

  1. I have a small grow in the works, and it's my first one. I have 1- 5 gal. Dwc set-up, 2- soil, and 1 in an aerogarden. I'm using cfl's for everything but the aerogarden, and i am curious if anyone has tried this. I am using flora series for nutes, still early in veg, but thinking about inducing flowering early.

    Does anyone have any advice?

    -Thanks

  2. There isn't enough information to offer any advice. Can you put a photo up showing your set ups?

  4. All looks good man. Are those CFLs at that distance all the time? It's better to have them within 4 inches. But 2 or 3 is better as long as the temperature doesn't get too high.

How much air do you have going through the nutrient solution? That's where a lot of people  have problems

My temp stays around 74-82 at that height I have a dual aqua culture air pump at 2800cc/min. With 5" bubble bars. (Wal-Mart special type of budget) idk if that would be too much air? Its going into week 4 with this setup. The 2 in soil are fairly easy to manage as of now, but i only feed them nutes once a week. I'll lower the lights and see if i can keep the temp down. Humidity is generally pretty low as well. But i don't really have a way to check my ppm, i cleaned my dwc bucket and added nutes for early flowering. How often should i clean out my res for dwc?

  6. 2.8 litres per minute is a very small amount. I would definitely buy a bigger pump when you can because when the plants are bigger they will strip the nutrient solution of its oxygen in no time

The only time I clean my reservoirs is on harvest day. A ppm meter is an essential bit of kit if you want the nutrient strength spot on. You can get them for as little as £3.25 including delivery from China so you'd be mad not to get one.

considering you aren't using a ppm meter that plant looks very good. Keeping the ppm exactly where the plant's prefer means you don't have to change out the solution very often, you just adjust it instead

  7. Word, good lookin out bro, I'll definitely check out some ppm meters locally, and look at possibly a larger pump, what would you recommend as far as litre/min?

  8.
I adhere to the "rule" of 1 litre  of air per minute for every 2 litres of nutrient solution. But it doesn't have to be dead on. 5 US gallons is about 19 litres, so a 10LPM pump should be about right. A Hailea pump of that output sells for about £18 on eBay. I guess in the US they would be similar priced. I'm assuming you are in the US, is that correct. I don't know why I assumed that lol

  9. These are the pumps I use, they work really well

  10. Ok, yea I'm in the states haha. Do you use bubble bars or stones? The bars don't seem to be doing so bad with my limited air, and she drank about a litre of water since the change yesterday. I switched to 12/12 lighting, and will update as each week passes. Thanks again man! 😁🌿

  11. I use these common budget 2" round air stones. I have loads of them

  12. So, it's day 3 of my 12/12. Everything looks pretty good so far, still no signs of sex i don't think. Maybe someone can help? 1St is the DWC , 2nd is in soil, but a seedling i topped (beginner's mistake lol. And 3rd is my last soil just recently topped.

  13. If the plants don't have preflowers yet (and it looks like yours don't) it can take up to a week to show its first flowers. If they already had preflowers it will take less time, but even then, 3 days would be early

  14. Right, that's what i figured, still doesn,t look too bad for 3 days though

  15. your in good hands with GoldGrower helping ya.

    Chef.

  16. So it's day 6 of 12/12, everything's looking pretty good. ( i raised the light for a little stretch) they're sleeping now, but definitely for a beginner i don't think it's too bad. Still waiting for sex to show still, so i just took an overview shot. Let me know what you guys think.

    Thanks,

  17. So, today makes 1 week, and i had to take out the little one in the middle. There's just not enough room for proper growth without the hassle of bugs or climate issues. Will post pics tomorrow after i give them nutes.

  18. Ok, so today is day 1 of week 2, fes the plants this morning, still have to feed the soil plant, but too wet today. Did some pretty major trimming, and am trying to keep everything as simple as possible. Updating my aerogarden as well, been LSTing the shit out of it lol. Let me know what you think, oh, i still do not have a larger pump or even a ppm meter at this point. I think i've got the hang of it though.

    Thanks for looking,
