am I using marijuana the proper way to treat my symptoms( anxiety depression and insomnia)

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by johncoo6, Mar 27, 2015.

  1. . I have the rendency to smoke whenever any time. If I do it during the day though its a nice high but I feel like I cant function I haven't really tried smoking at night much but I do have trouble sleeping. So im a medical patient and mainly use it for anxiety depression and Insomnia. To better treat these ailments. I also go through some paranoia but I think its because of my tolerance being low.

use a vaporizer to get a more functional type of high during the day and to thwart depression(use vape with lower temps to just get the more active type of compounds) . at night smoke or eat an edible* to get the insomnia covered and to get the more sedating type of compounds. for the most relaxed night experience use already vaped herb in edibles to knock your ass out

edit^^^   *do not smoke an edible :) smoke the cannabis

  3. If you're experiencing paranoia you may want to try using less at a time. Just try one hit and wait 1/2 hour at least before trying more. You'll find your best dose that way. It's called titration if you didn't know. Apologize if you did! That would be my first step and it may work for you no matter what strain you have.
Also, strains can make a huge difference. Indicas are usually more calming and sativas tend to give you energy, mental stimulation, and paranoia and/or anxiety in larger doses. It may only take a hit or two for some people. I love sativas but too much gives me anxiety, and sometimes paranoia. When this happens I can usually counteract that with a few hits of a high CBD strain. A heavy indica normally works also.
Third is set and setting. If you're using cannabis to improve your mental state in any way you have to start out in a good place physically. It can calm you down, but you first need to remove any external negative factors, or remove yourself from them. In other words, surround yourself with friendly people in a friendly place when you medicate. If you're somewhere where you're feeling pressured or getting negative vibes cannabis can exacerbate it, making you feel worse. Start out in a good place and it will keep you there. Negative thoughts will roll off you like water off a duck's back.
Edibles can help you sleep. It's also way too easy to overdo it, and you can end up in a very unpleasant state for hours. Be very cautious when you try them if you haven't already! It's a completely different high than inhalation. It's not the place to start.
Speaking of inhalation, I am an advocate of vaporizers. Smoking is bad for your lungs, even cannabis. Vaporizing isn't perfect but it's much less harmful due to the lack of combustion. Cannabis is actually a bronchial dilator when vaporized.

  5. I dunno about "proper ways", I tend to just break mine up a bit and wrap it in tiny papers.

  6. I find cannabis increases my anxiety a lot. I'm starting to prefer smoking by myself just before bed. It always makes me so tired too, I'm starting to dislike using it during the day.
