Hello Grasscity! I joined this forum this year after starting my first closet grow last December. Once the plant really took off I started having some issues. Luckily, I found you guys! I really underestimated the art of growing quality cannabis in the beginning, but here I am moving forward! I decided to start a grow journal a little late - but soon enough for the good part - after some well-heard advice from a fellow cultivator. The title says it! I'm using the power of love paired with CFL bulbs to cultivate cannabis purely for personal use.. and FUN!
My setup consists of the following.. MEDIUM: Coco Coir/Perlite (4.5 gallon) NUTRIENTS: General Hydroponics (Flora series) LIGHTS: 12, 23w CFL bulbs (8, 2700k/4, 5500k) and a 4ft fluorescent fixture (what a tongue twister! LOL) with 2 unknown bulbs I had lying around for extra side lighting. AIR: 1 small desk fan attached to the wall, blowing over the lights. 1 box fan opposite of the smaller fan. TEMPERATURE/RH: 72-82F, 30%-60%
My first plant is 7 weeks into flowering today. I've learned a TON! And boy am I excited! Since educating myself about growing cannabis I wasn't expecting a very large yield from my girl, given I'm using CFL bulbs. Although this IS my first grow, I'm still very shocked by what's in front of me because I expected something much, much smaller. Alongside my flowering (Bagseed, I might add) plant, I have sprouted another bagseed. At first it was just going to be my second grow and another learning experience. Though it is both of those, I've also decided to participate in the 5th Solo Challenge. My solo is just 3 weeks old, looking quite small yet. Which leads us to... PICTURES!
In order of appearance (I Hope!) 12/20 (10 days after germination) 12/28 1/02 1/12 1/18 1/23 1/25 1/31 2/07 2/08 (2 days after 12/12 flip) 2/13 2/21 3/01 3/07 3/13 3/22 3/27 (Today!) And my Solo!.. I've already tied her down, you can see.

Hey!! Looking good did u do any training on her? I expected it to be a lot less bushy with CFLs I'm truly impressed!!
Yeah! I topped her in 3 places, 2 of which were pretty pointless I now see. I also tied her down once for only a day which worked enough. I think you can see the string in one of the pictures. I also supercropped the hell out of her to the point I accidentally snapped branches, but I learned my limits and was rewarded in the process.
Well whatever u did the plant seemed to like it I just tried topping my first plant and I did it once, waited a few days and then topped the new two tops I did finally tie her down although she really didn't need it yet I've just been lsting the hell outta the others

Thanks! It's really all I had/could afford at the time. I don't think CFLs are TOO TERRIBLE. I was thinking of adding a mars led above and then CFL for side lighting. I would love to use HID, but my grow room is a closet. I cannot setup fans and ducting for the necessary airflow, because I cannot cut holes in walls. I've considered a grow tent, but it wouldn't fit in the closet. I've also considered a homemade cardboard grow box lined with mylar. Would the mylar protect the cardboard from moisture? Mold is the last thing I want to worry about. How hot does a 150w hps and/or mh get compared to 12 CFLs anyways? Even with CFL it can get up to 85 with the door closed, so I leave the door open during the day with a homemade odor-eliminator.. Grow space is roughly.. 2.25 (w) x 6 (l) x 6 (h)
Welcome bro! And once you harvest just one time haha, the amount of things that you can afford will increase lol. NOT IMPLYING AT ALL TO SELL, I'm saying that you'll save so much money not buying weed haha. And I understand the struggle not being able to vent and all that. I'm in a pantry so I'm in a closet too haha, just a different sort. Tents are good too because you can somewhat vent them, and contain the heat from your closet, keeping that heat in the tent. The cardboard box rig is cool too, I've seen it done and pondered it too, and you don't have to worry about a box molding. But if you get a box wet, it's gonna do what a wet box does and fall apart, so you'll just have to take care and not spray in your box. Humidity won't cause your box to mold...If so, you're buds are prob molding too. And in comparison to 12 CFLs, I'd say that I 150w HPS burns at about the same temp, if not slightly cooler. I observed that a little over two years ago I'd say. And a bit of a secret, those little Febreeze Air Effects car fresheners(vent clips)...They last about 3-4wks and the totally kill the smell in a small grow haha. $5 once a month and you're alright! Ps, all those herbs you're growing will make for nice bio-fertilizers for the girls
I might consider HID once this plant is chopped! I was always AFRAID of the heat lol. Last thing I want is an uncontrollable environment. As of now the money I spend in the streets is ridiculous! I can't wait to know what I'm smoking is my own hard work! Humidity isn't a big issue in my area. Actually my rh in my closet at the moment is a little low, I think (usually hangs around 30-35%). Also, I never foliar feed. I'm scared to approach that yet as well haha I'll definitely pick some of those up today and unplug my ONA bucket. I assume you attached your to your fan? I really appreciate the advice, brother. Ps. I want to venture in the art of SOIL! Maybe next plant... hm. Anyways, I'm all sorts of confused on how to prepare soil with such fertilizers. I've heard coco is harder to manage but I've had a decent time with her.
Yeah you can also consider LED lights which sound like your best bet. As far as the Febreeze clips, just put them somewhere in the closet. Not on a fan tho. A little indirect breeze is good enough. And yeah man I don't know anything other than soil. I'd say it's worth looking into for sure bro, but I know everyone has their own situations too you know.. But ur welcome anytime man.
