this will be my summer project to do for hobby and just to prepare for the future...

this is my second summer to start trees from seed.  i started sawtooth oaks and water oaks last summer and i had pretty good success rate with starting them from seed.   i had better results with the sawtooth (white oak) than i did the water (red oak).   i also planted several fruit and some oaks at some farm land i have this past year.

this year, im starting american persimmon, mexican (wild) plum, nectarine fruit trees.  i will also start  : white oak, sawtooth oak, water oak, burr oak, black oak, and post oak trees....

im gonna start a  veggie garden that i hope to start in the next few weeks at our local community garden.

im also plan to work on a flower type of bed for a small area in front of my house....not sure which way im going with it, but im gonna try a new style of gardening...

just wanted to share my summer of gardening with u guys...never know what all im gonna grow so grab a seat.

this is a lil flower bed in front of my house... i decided to do a back to eden garden with it.

basically, it works like this.   i laid down cardboard.   then i put about 5" of leaves on top...with 50 lbs of black kow manure compost with 5 gallons of used coffee grounds.   i topped it with about 12" of basic mulch and put another 50 lbs of black kow manure compost on top of that.  i also added some crushed egg shells id been saving for a while...

i will let this sit up over the next year and with time and the help of earthworms, it will turn into very rich, organic black soil.

its a very cool way to garden and u can look up "back to eden" on youtube and get more info about it.

  3. That layering of those items is pretty cool. It's a pretty good idea. I should of done that with my raised bed on the side of my house at the end of last year so I could be planting in it this weekend.

I'll definitely have to remember at the end of this year to leave my garden in this shape so when I plant the following year I have rich soil.
