Mid veg leaf discolleration

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by dmgstoner, Mar 25, 2015.

  1. I'm at day 33 from popping out of the soil.    Last week I did notice a few fan leafs starting to discolor a bit.    I try and wait for the soil to dry out before watering.   The plants are in 5 gallon smart pots and each one seems to take about 1 gallon every 4-5 days.   Temps are about 77 and RH 50%.    I'm using technaflora products which include CAL/MAG.    My pH is always 6.2.    ppm last feeding (yesterday) was about 1150.   Any ideas?

  2. I forgot to mention.    My guess, since it seems to have started discoloration last week, is that it was time for nutrients.     I'm on the water, water, nutrients schedule.    Besides a half feeding several weeks ago, this is their first full feeding.     Perhaps it takes a few days for them to react?     Just a hopeful guess.

  3. What kind or soil or soulless medium are they in

  4. What brand and type of soil?
    Indoors or outdoors?
    What strain?
    How old are the plants?
What type of lights and how many watts?
    How far from the lights?
What is your watering frequency and source of water?
What, how much and when was it fed? NPK?
What is the medium/runoff pH and PPM if in hydro?
What are the temps and humidity in the room?
    What size pots?
    Any bugs? Look real close.

  5. From a bit of research, I believe this is a magnesium deficiency.    Purple streaks in the stalks and starting from the bottom fan leaves.   AND this normally affects indoor grows and usually starts in about a month in to veg.    Part of my nutrient mix is a cal/mag product that I just gave yesterday.    I've also heard that you can mix Epson salts (2 tsp. in a sprayer with HOT water and a drop of dish soap) Spray underside of leaves with the lights OFF.     Next water I think I will add some cal/mag supplement.    I'm surprised I'm not receiving any more comments.    Perhaps not many are reading of have had this problem...

We'll see and I'll certainly share what I've learned...

Here's a few pictures from this morning.   Last night I sprayed the underside of them with a mix of 2 teaspoons Epsom salt and a drop or two of dish soap to act as a surfactant.  I did this a bit after the lights were out and they were cool.   After a bit, I turned the lights back on normal schedule.     I've heard it takes a few days for the magnesium to work.    I would go along with nitrogen problem, however I just fed them Tuesday and a pretty good feeding also (1150ppm)   I always adjust the pH to around 6.2 +/- and even check the pH of the run off so think I'm good there.    Since I started to see signs last week also, I'm just not sure.   the stalks are green, however the small stalks leading to the fan leaves are purple which from my understanding is another sign of mag problem.

Anyway, here are some pics from this morning.   I've been using a nutrient starter kit from technoflora (see pic) and following their recommendations

I think I need to see what another day or so brings.

You know, after looking at things, they might be showing a bit of improvement?   Its difficult to see under the LEDs and sometime even under CFL bulbs.    You can see the purple stalk on 1170 pic.    The other thing is that they could be a different strain.     On my next watering, I will add some cal/mag to the water and pH it to around 6.5.

Temps and humidity are fine (75 and 51) and no pests (I looked extremely hard).    I don't think this is from over or under watering.   Just trying to eliminate and learn!
