Canna-oil, weed brownies..?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by squidlee_bod, Mar 20, 2015.

  1. So I'm gonna make my first batch of canna-oil and brownies and I'm kind of limited on weed, I'll probably use 3grams and I'll cut the needed ingredients for the recipe accordingly. (Only enough to make like 3 brownies). I have a special tiny pan I'll use so I got that down but the bigger issue I have is preparing such a little amount of oil. Since the recipe only requires like 1/2 cup of oil (I'm using coconut oil) there amount I'll need (since I'm only making a fraction of the amount of brownies) of canna-oil is very small. I think I have a small enough pan to do it in (it's a mini muffin pan, I'll just use one of the little cups in it to cook the oil and infuse the thc). Anyways.. My question is, since coconut oil hardens when chilled, if I add water to the pan to make the oil high enough to completely submerge whatever weed is in there will it work? The water and coconut oil will separate in the fridge and the coconut oil should solidify so I can remove it from the water, then I'll proceed with making the brownies.

What are your thoughts? Does adding the water mess anything up? The bud I'm using is pretty decent, I'm not too experience but I know that the 1.75 I get normally lasts me a week or so of vaping regularly. Also, are they're anythings I can add to the oil making process to make it more effective? I heard a couple things with repeating the simmering process over and over again or adding sugar to the mix but only a small amount.

  2. I do not recommend mixing oil and water.

If you are very low on herb you might try making a single serving "firecracker".

  3. Yes, three grams can make three brownies, but since the amount of oil you need will be so little I think the advice to make several firecrackers as puddleglum recommends is the best idea.  You could also Google "single serving cannabis recipes" and see what pops.
Have fun, enjoy, and let us know what you do and how it went.

  4. ps I have been known to use 4g for a tray of 12-16 brownies.

  5. Your method sounds like it will work, why not add in the vaped bud you have?  Also you can add a little extra oil, it wont hurt.  Probably should decarb...keep temps low.

I actually saw a couple of tutorials add water to oil/melted butter and they just removed it at the end, but I also just got a small Pyrex beaker and it holds about 80ml, I think it's diameter is small enough to effectively add the oil and cover all the weed, with minimal water. I'll also probably put it in the oven at a lower temp since it'll be in a much smaller pan (maybe 300 degrees). Also if I'm successful with these I'll make a bigger batch, I want to use them for spring break in a couple weeks so I think I'll do the brownies rather than firecrackers for now

I'll keep yall updated on how it worked and potency and what not, also I'll definitely add in already vaped stuff since I'm not planning to do anything with it as of rn.

  7. Do I still decarb before making the oil if I'm using normal bud (ground up of course)?

  8. Does the trusted recipe you are carefully following recommend to decarb or no? Do you trust me more than the trusted recipe? ;)

So I'm basically just doing this with already vaped stuff (a large percent of which is pretty used up since I tend to over vape stuff I think) and I sprinkled on some good dank on top but a very tiny amount. I'll probably try this out tonight before I make whatever actual batch. I've been pretty skeptical about trying this stuff so I'll definitely upload results from this to anyone who wants to know. Hopefully I'll get pretty high.

Edit: I made the final product (decided to whip together some flour, sugar, egg and cocoa to make tiny brownies). The weed I used was a small amount and pretty vaped already like I said. The oil mixture was left on the stove for around 1.5 (maybe more, not sure) and the "brownies" we're in the oven for 15 at 280-300. They'll probably taste gross since I kinda just winged the brownie mix without any sort of recipe haha. Will report back later

  10. Okay so I'll just respond back like I said, I'm pretty unsatisified though..

First, I made a small batch of about 3 brownies using some AVB and some dank bud, but it was only a little amount(when I say little I mean this all added up probably to only 1 gram, 1.5 tops). Anyways, I used the beaker and had a double boiler method sort of set up, I let it go for around 2 hours and proceeded to make some "brownies" with random ingredients I had. These weren't meant to be tasty, I just needed something to add the oil to so that I could actually consume it. I baked it at 300 for maybe 15 minutes and ate them all soon after. I assume I got high, though I fell asleep really fast and didn't wake up till late the next morning. I was kind of bummed by this, but it was a tiny amount of weed so I wasn't expecting that much.

The next day I made some 9 brownies with about 3.9g of some dank weed (6 hits from my vape had me high as a kite, honestly some of the best bud i've had). I made sure the whole thing didnt get too hot with the same boiler method and cooked everything accordingly (i followed Zolo's tutorial if any of you are familiar), and consumed 1 of these brownies, waited.. in total I ate 3 but the high was just alright. Like I did get pretty high, (not quite as much as I would off my vape) and i felt like it was more of a body high but it wasn't special. With the same amount of weed i used on these I couldve easily been set for a month. definitely not worth it... Part of me thinks I did something wrong, but i let the mixture sit for some 2 hours and the temps and times were all good, and I could definitely taste it (though the brownies also were pretty tasty)... But I mean, its cool, I probably wont try edibles for a while, but ill take any suggestions on how to make it better. also, i didnt add any water to the oil mixture--the beaker i used was small enough to completely cover the weed.

  11. Did you remember to decarb?

  12. For the first batch I didn't because it was AVB, and for the second I didn't because the tutorial i was using didn't. Would it have made that much of a difference in comparison to the heat its exposed to both within the oil and the oven whilst baking?

Decarb (and maybe a little bit of lecithin) might have made a big difference. In my opinion you should be following a trusted guide like the BadKatSmiles recipes "stickied" to the top of this forum. Carefully. Exactly. Step by step. [IMG]

  14. Hi

    1. Make sure you decarb your bud first! Grind it, seal it in aluminum foil pouch. 20-30 min @ 220. Freshly harvested longer.

    2. Make coconut oil with your decarbed bud.

    3. Herb and oil and tsp lethicin in covered Pyrex. 45-50min @ 220.

    4. Let cool then freeze with material over night.

    5. Defrost then 2cd cook in oven, add tsp lethicin. 45-50 min @ 220

    6. Cool strain and use in any recipe that calls for butter or oil

I like 1 oz ground bud or trim to 1 cup of coconut oil, works great. Doseing as follows

What you would smoke in one session? So if your usual sesh is with 1/4 g that would be how much you should eat. If you smoke 1g eat that.

We use brownies, cookies, cakes, sauces, salad dressing, gravy, any recipe that calls for fat we sub in our Canna coconut oil. You can even just spread it on toast.

I will use box brownies for the example. Takes 1/4 cup of oill

1/4 cup of medicated oil=7 grams tray of brownies cut into 14 pieces = 1/2 gram per brownie. Standard dispensary dose is .20 so you could say brownies made at this strength are 2way. Unless you know the % of THC in your product before processing you can not reliably say how many MG there is per serving. Our Pt's understand the above explanation fine. I guarantee the above recipe and system it is
Based completely on BKS tech stickied at the top of the ediable section. If you have the time and read her tech she goes into every aspect of why and how. I have read this through many times and feel I have a complete understanding of what needs to happen. This is the condensed version.

    Happy Mediables!

  15. .25 to .5 gram per serving per 2" by 4" brownie. that will hammer you for sure. the problem you had was not decarbing your bud.

    decarbing bud:
    1) make a foil pouch. one that the bud will lay pretty flat in. and make sure you seal 3 of the edges real good leaving the 4th edge open.

    2) preheat oven to 200* F to 220* F. usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes to preheat.

    3) grind bud to joint consistency. add it to the foil pouch and seal the final edge. remember, the foil packet should be big enough so the bud can lay flat and thin inside of it.

    4) put the bud in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes. let the pouch cool on its own for 30 minutes or so. other wise you could open it to soon and all of the good stuff will fly out the window. at this point, when it has cooled, you can smash up the bud a little more. th finer the better.

    5) dump the ground up and decarbed bud in to your favorite brownie mix. cook as directed. be sure to use coconut oil instead of butter or margarine that the recipe calls for.

with that said, some people like to simmer the bud in coconut oil and then strain out the bud. i think decarbing bud gives it a yummy nutty flavor and this way you are sure people will know they are medicated. as far as how much bud per 1 box of brownie mix? i go with 8 to 12 grams of what ever amazing bud i can find. i personally never cook with anything that has been used already like ABV. it can be kind of hard to get the amount of bud right because you don't know how strong the ABV is really.

here is something else to try. decarb your bud like i described above. then add .5 grams of it to hot coco. use whole milk and a bit of whole cream if you have it. be sure to add the decarbed bud to the milk when you first put it on the stove top so it can heat along with the milk and pull all of the oils out. it makes crazy strong hot coco and it cooks quick if you have the decarbed bud on hand like i do. i just store about 3 or 4 grams of it at a time in the fridge. lasts at least a week but i don't know exactly how long because i use it with in that week lol!

but ya, i never filter the bud out when i cook. no one ever says they don't like them either...go figure [IMG]

  16. If I still have the bud I separated from the oil is it possible to re-do the process and decarb this time I'll have a enough to make just one brownie?

  17.
You will probably get better/stronger results if you start with fresh material.

That said, I do sometimes use my "second pressing" to make weak brownies, and it works fine. Waste not, want not. ;)

I agree pudd. I typically run it twice when I am doing large batches, but not sure if it will be worth the extra effort in your case. If you got the time go for it then go for it. I normally use oil for the second run too. Not too sure why, but it was the way I was taught. The second run is usually what I use to make pesto with :)
