Today I will be building a 413 watt panel with Cree CXA 3590 cobs. I can only build one for right now, I have to wait for the rest of my drivers to come in. Here are some of the things you will need. Tools: wire stripper , drill ( I have a drill press), drill bits 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 3/16-NC18 tap Misc: solder, shrink tubing, 18ga wire I use solid wire not twisted for my application, because I'm using cob holders that eliminates having to solder wire to cobs, wing nuts and #8 x 1/2" self tapping screws, thermal grease Parts 8 - Cree CXA 3590, 8 - Ideal 2303CR(cob holder), 1 - 10" x 24" heat sink, 4 - 5/16" x 3-1/4" eyebolts and 2 - 3/16" chain cut to 6 links= 1ft, 4 - #10-24 x 2-1/2" machine screws and 2 - #8-32 x2" machine screws with the nuts, Thermaltake Pure 20 fan Thermaltake . 15ft extension cord and a ac/dc adapter. I forgot to mention the 4 spring chain links you'll need
I forgot to mention you need a square to get your lines straight and also a marker to mark with. Maybe I shouldn't be smoking while making this thread lol.
I was just thinking to myself I need to research this and bang! U post the topic. have u got a price list of parts (rroughly) plz
First thing we need to do is mark where the fan is suppose to be and what I did was measure 12" and 5" wide and then I measured 2" from the ends and 5" from the 2" lines from the middle
Now it's time to mark the spot for the cob holders. from the lines you marked you start by measuring the first hole by marking the hole 1-1/2" from the edge on the first line and then you place the holder over where you marked and then mar the second hole. you do this on the outside lines and the middle line and the line in between the outer line you measure 4" from the edge and it should look like this
This is what it looks like with all the holes drilled What I did was I first drilled out my holes for the holders,I used a 1/8" drill bit after that I marked where the fins were between fin 2 and 3 and used the 5/16" drill bit to drill out the holes for my eye bolts and then an inch from that hole I used the 5/32" drill bit the the hole I run the wire through. I also used a Mean well driver to mark the holes with the 5/32 drill bits and I used the eye holes to line them up so no drilling through the fins
Lets put this baby together. I start with the eye bolts first so that way the heat sink will be raised on both sides. That way when I install the cobs when I go to install the fan the cobs wont touch anything.
Subbed. I did a ton of research on building one for myself and couldn't find it cost-effective given all the materials. What is the estimated cost of building this so far?
Well it's time to wire everything up but first I need to solder my fans power supply to this adapter that comes with the Thermaltake Pure 20 fan which I forgot to put in the parts list which I will edit
Just tested the wattage and it's 429 watts I haven't dimmed it yet but I'm letting it run for an hour before I do it to see wattage when it is running low.
