This is my second grow here. (I completed my last, but haven't got around to uploading the pics yet.) I'm trying out an indoor grow since the weather is currently still a bit unpredictable AND I purchased a MarsHydro LED 300W last year so I can finally be certain everyone will get enough light. [IMG]

I actually made my own 3'x4.5'x4' growbox out of coroplast and mylar, but it neither fits in my closet, nor is necessary this early in the seedlings' growth. It's broken down and being stored in my shed. The building process is for another post.

I'll likely move the growbox and the plants inside the shed when weather is warmer at night and the plants are big and need more light reflected by the mylar. Oooor keep them in the closet and just put some mylar panels around them. We'll see how lazy I am and/or if I decide to add more plants to my grow that would warrant the space of the box.

I plan to germinate more seeds since I only got one of my Lowryder #2's to take, and they are not feminized.

TL;DR: you can see the start of my grow in the attached photos. They're currently on an 20/4 light schedule, veg switch only, no nutes, and dechlorinated water.

  2. So I remeasured my grow box and it's actually 2.5'x3'x4', giving it a floorspace of 7.5ft.

Given the MarsHydro 96x3W reflector series I have puts out roughly 14600 lumens and the min you want to go with an indoor grow is 2000 lumens per square foot, that gives my box ~1950 lumens per square foot.

it sounds like I was smarter making my box than I even gave myself credit for. lol X)

I know that's pushing it, but I'll most likely not grow more than 3 plants in this grow, so I won't even be using the full space of the box anyways.  If I do end up using the box, I'll make a quick mylar panel to throw in the box to close up the extra space so lighting is more optimal.

This is a plus because I still have a nice big growbox if I decide to grow bigger crops in the future.  ^_^  I'd likely purchase a UFO if I did that.

  3. Also, at the moment, those lumens are being shared between two plants, so it's around 7300 lumens per plant at the moment.  If I keep my grow at two plants, I'll hopefully be able to keep the lumens per square feet more optimal.

  4. Now that I'm here, it's time for an update. The seedlings are doing fantastic! :D. I've also included a pic of their current setup.

  7. I've got quite a few back updates I need to upload when I have the time.

I'll briefly cover the last few days in words in the meantime:

The berry ryder was pulling ahead quite well and then rather quickly the edges of the first true leaves started to brown and dry out. Quickly as in within the course of one day they went from yellow on the edges to halfway to the middle vein.

Considering both plants were in the same soil, same conditions, the only difference being strain and plant size, I reasoned this was nute burn given the taproot was likely bigger and sucking more nutrients from it's parent soil than the smaller plant. Talk with another grower also relayed the same conclusion.

I quickly transplanted them into new pots, mixing their original almost pure Fox Farm ocean forest into a 50/50 with the seedling starter mix before repotting.

The lowryder #2 is acting like it was never transplanted and is now bigger! (Oh, it better be female now!)

The berry ryder is still droopy after two days, BUT that quickly advancing brown had stopped immediately, further supporting the nute burn hypothesis. The damaged leaves appear stable now except for the two really bad bottom ones. Just waiting on her to perk back up now and start growing at top speed again. :/

As I photographed details of the process, I'll have to get on my comp to organize and post them in more detail. I'll do this later today.

the three lowryder #2 seeds germinated and were planted in solos
a summary photo of my grow so far can be seen in the attachments

  14. 3/29/2015  - TODAY!
    • The berry ryder is doing much better!  It looks like she's given up on the damaged leaves and is popping up lots of new growth.  No more droopy leaves!
    • The oldest lowryder #2 is continuously doing wonderful.
    • The AUTO speed bud is chugging along nicely.
    • The three germinated lowryder #2's all broke ground.

  15. Just a quick update: Here's a macro of my largest Lowryder #2, which is unfeminized.

At only 20 days old, but I'm pretty sure those are pistils!!

  17. Named plants are for the "INFAMOUS SOLO CUP CHALLENGE 5". This will make it a bit easier referring to individual plants given I've now got 4 Lowryder #2s.

Also, still very elated my big Lowryder #2 is a female. :) Good feeling. I'm not buying anything but feminized from now on.

Okie doke, I was gone for a few weeks and am a bit backlogged while a friend minded my plants with basic watering.

Plants survived fine, but I noticed they were starting to show deficiencies.  Finally sucked it up and got a pH kit to test and runoff was around 8.0, so I've been correcting for that with my waterings and nutes.  Currently my runoff looks to be around 6.5. [IMG]

I gave a diluted amount of Fox Farm Grow Big just because they obviously seemed to be needing Nitrogen, but I'm hesitating on any more additional nutes until I see that pHing the soil hasn't fixed the issue.

    Ok, here they are!

lowryder #2 - So this happened when my friend was watching them, the plant had grown up against the light and bleached part of the flowers and leaves.  You'll see later how it ended up growing a cola split at the tip.

Today I used some of the Lowryder #2 pollen to pollinate each of my main plants' lower popcorn buds.  I picked two that were under direct light.

  20. Noticed my light timer was set to ON, meaning the plants have been getting 24-0 for not sure how long.  They're back to 20-4 and hopefully this will help them a little given they are already stressed from the pH nutrient lockout.  Given they are autos, I know this isn't that big of a deal, but I believe they need that little bit of darkness every day to help along some of their processes.

Watered today with plain dechlorinated pH corrected water, the runoff was 6.0-6.5.  :)

Buds are plumping up and I'm seeing no change in the florets that I pollinated yesterday.
