Ceramic Nail Dabs

Discussion in 'Concentrate Tools' started by translucentlylucid, Mar 16, 2015.

  1. Hey everyone, I just bought a ceramic nail and have no idea what to do when it comes to using it. I mean I know how to do a dab, but with this ceramic its almost like my shatter is just not vaporizing all the way and some is left in the nail. I dont know how long to heat it up for, and how long to cool off. Also, I bought a newport mini torch because the guy at my local shop reccomended it but it seems to go out often, maybe I just need to fill it up more? But yeah if you have any experience or knowledge on ceramic nails and how to use them to their full advantage, please inform me. Thanks!

  2. It takes a lot longer to hear a ceramic nail. Like 2 straight minutes. Then another 30-45 seconds for cool down. It's the trade off for not having to season it.

  3. Be careful, heat up a ceramic nail to hot and that bitch will blow up in your face like it did to me. Never touching a ceramic nail again! Quartz banger or titanium domeless are the only 2 nails I'll buy.

I dont know what torch you are using or what nail but that seems like a little bit too long. I heat mine no more than 45 seconds mostly less...evenly around all sides or else it may crack. 2 minutes is an insane amount of time unless your using a small torch I guess (which Op is) but even then definitely dont need to heat it that long. I use a vector and a newport zero which has a larger flame than the vector and I have a Medicali ceramic nail.

Do you have a carb cap op? because you certainly need one for ceramic

I usually lay the dab on the dish as soon as I cant feel an intense heat on my hand above the nail. More like a warmth. If its too hot to sustain your hand above it its too hot to dab!!!!

  5. Yes, I bought a carb cap, I guess I should time how ling it takes to heat up, I saw this video on youtube where this guy says to heat the ceramic nail up long enough to where you can see orange coming off the end of the flame, then wait 10 seconds and dab.

  6. Use a carb cap and it will make the nail a little hotter and cook the oil.
You can even use a wax jar

  7. With my big propane torch it takes about 50 seconds to get red hot, then I let it sit for about 15 seconds doing the "hand test" mentioned above. I normally use a small butane torch though, so it takes 1.5-2 minutes.

  8. lol the problem is uneven heating, not getting too hot. just like glass nails.

  9. I have had a ceramic nail break on me. Never got it red hot and the dabs were great. The rim just cracked right off in one piece. While is was nice, I think ill stick to my quartz domeless.

  10. I've had a few ceramic nails and it usually takes 24-35 seconds but I mainly heat one side.
