Storics Indoor Tent Adventure | Coco DTW | 600w Vert Bulb

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by Storic, Mar 15, 2015.

  1. Hey everybody, I'm Storic a.k.a St0ric/03storic depending on where you look and this is going to be my journal for my first attempt at an indoor grow, I have only attempted to grow one time before and that was a guerilla grow that I put a lot of effort into for very very little result and that made me realise the risk vs reward was worth making the switch.

After more then 4 months of research, reading and following journals on here among other places I have decided the method required in order to get the highest yield in the shortest time possible and the lowest margin for error would be growing in coco coir using drain-to-waste in small pots(Max 6.5L) watering with GH Flora Micro/Bloom(H34D Formula).

As to what actual equipment I am using, there is a 1.2mx1.2mx2m tent with a 600w HPS hanging vertically with a 300CFM fan blowing directly across the bulb to disperse the heat generated, a 200CFM running as an exhaust fan out the top and a 12k BTU 3.5kW portable air-con inside keeping the temps at a reasonable level, intake is passive and I am hand watering for now 2 times a day until I get about 10 to 20ml of run off.

I started 6 bagseeds roughly 12 days ago, 5 sprouted and are working on their second set of true leaves but I haven't been keep track of exactly how long they are above ground so at best guess I would say 9 days as it only took about 3 for all 5 to be sprouted an inch above soil. Yesterday I decided to drop a DinaFem Deep Cheese because why the hell not, I had two freebie seeds so no loss if it doesn't germ.

    Now for the visual aids.

These are the seeds the same day they popped, inside the Mini Propagation Tent I bought for a steal at only $40 but the outside canvas has some mildew stains so meh..

Inside the tent, not the best pic thanks to the HPS but it gives you an idea of the setup I am running, not visible is the 23cm oscillating fan next to the air-con.

These are the babies today looking a little beat up by the fan but they will become stronger for it, not quite 2 weeks old here by my calculations.

And this is a surprise gift from my neighbour, he had a bed that he was transplanting some starts from and these ones had tangled roots so he gave them to me, I cleaned off as much soil as I could before moving them into the coco, no idea what will happen with them but I figure it won't hurt to hang onto them for now either way. he smokes to counteract the medication he takes for epilepsy and had them in shade so that is why they are so stretched and picked clean.

Alright I think that is about everything, I will try to keep everyone updated on anything that happens.

Figured I should do an update as it's been a little while, things are going very well except for what might be magnesium def on one of the plants and some sort or burning/twisting on another plant in just one spot, the Deep Cheese Fem I planted a week ago today is progressing nicely and so are the gifted plants from my neighbour, I did some LST on them so that the canopy isn't crowded and they are loving the environment they are in even though the roots are a tangled mess.

I have added an old res to the tent so I don't have to keep removing the plants from the tent to water them which I should be able to leave for a fairly long time before emptying, I already am looking to improve what I have going because space is not something I have an excess amount of especially with the airconditioner inside the tent. I may have to build some sort of frame that sits higher then the aircon and put wire mesh on top followed by plastic with a hole in the center so I can still drain to waste efficiently but that would make me lose a lot of vertical space for growth.. decisions, decisions...

I'll start with the gifted "Multipotted Plants", this is 3 days ago when I first tied them all down using pipe cleaners just hooked onto the pot and looped over the stem.

This is the day after with them all looking much better I hope that I can use these to get something extra to smoke by putting them outside sometime in about a month or when I run out of room in the tent.

An overview shot of the tent on the same day I LST'd the multipot [IMG], things are starting to get tight in here already, I have lowered the light by about a foot from where I had it before because temps were improving but since then we have had some 35c days that even the aircon couldntfight so that has caused some curling on a few of the ones in the shared pot.

Now here it is last night.

Blurry ass root shot, I figure another week or so and I can start feeding multiple times a day, I really need to get a system going so I can stop doing it by hand but I am far from the most skilled tradesman and I still don't even know how many plants I want to run at a time not to mention buying the pump and parts and whatnot.

I also recorded a video because I was feeling lazy but then I got motivated and decided to make a text post anyway, I might upload the video to youtube because it lets you experience the tent in more intimate detail and shows the issues I am having which I forgot to take a picture of.

  3. Alrighty then I figure it's time for an update as things are starting to get along to the more interesting part of the grow and there is a lot different this time around.

Starting with the plants I was given by my neighbour I managed to get them thriving very nicely and I attempted to put them outside to get something off them plus get them out of the way but the dog got into them and did some pretty serious damage, none died and other then ruining my training attempts it has bounced back after 3 days back inside and I have once again moved them outside. The picture below is before the dog attack, I don't have an after shot.

Inside the tent growth is amazing and everyday they get more and more dense, I transplanted to 1L pots on the 26th and am going to transplant again in a day or so up to their final pot size and I will flip into flower once I am sure there is no transplant shock. Yesterday I overhauled the design inside my tent and lowered the light so it is now level within the canopy with the plants arranged in a circle around the light.

As always pictures work better then words.

  4. Alrighty then it's time for another update! Roughly 5 days ago I flipped the light to 12/12 due to running out of larger pots and have been Lsting as best I can to take advantage of the vertical bulb a little bit each day.

There is currently 3 confirmed females and 3 unknown but they should show within the next few days so no worries there, when I flipped into flower my tallest plant was 6" and is without a doubt starting to do their stretch as I have had to adjust the light each day for the last few days.

Going to be making a seed order in the next few days, might be a little excessive but this should be all I need for the forseable future. I am only actually keeping 10 KC 45 Regs, 1 Fem Green Crack, 1 Fem Fruity Chronic Juice, 1 Fem Jack Herer, 1 Fem OG Kush and 1 Fem Purple Trainwreck the rest are going to other people, all of them have never had imported genetics so it should be good for the local community to get some variation.

Oh and before I forget, bonzaseeds.com has 30% off everything right now, I don't know how long it will last so get in fast.

  6. Time for another update, things are about to get very interesting as they have been in 12/12 since 4th of April but I only ended up with 3 females total and the Deep Cheese has only just started to put out an amount of pistils but that is ok because it will power on once it gets started and the bagseeds started showing about a week ago, because I have so many pics I will just put them up and comment/date them as I go.

I have upgraded to using a 400w bulb as well as the 600w stacked and with the aircon running I am getting temps of min 18c through the day(too cold) and max 30c at night when the lights are on but I don't have any controllers and my AC will only start manually if its turned off. I also made a humidity dome to start some clones in but I am not sure if they will root with any hormone even though they haven't died after more then 2 weeks or so.

Alrighty then time for another update, currently I am 37 days into flower and things are starting to stack on nicely I think, since I flipped them to flower the bagseed plants have gone from 6" right upto 36" which is pretty crazy and I am glad that I started flower when I did.

The bagseeds had seemed to be flowering much faster then the Deep Cheese which didn't show any real change or stretch up until a few weeks in and is now getting very stinky and crystals are starting to form nicely, same with the bagseeds which look like they will fill in very nicely and I have upped the light power to 2x600w stacked bulbs with an industrial fan underneath giving me insane air movement throughout the entire tent.

Anyway I narrate my pics if needed anyway so here they are.

Havent gone to take pics of the tent yet so will post them later on.

  8. Ok so I have plenty of pretty pictures to document the progress over the time I haven't been updating leading upto 50 days flower, the Deep Cheese is supposed to only go 55 - 60 but I will take it another 2 weeks I think because there are almost 0 brown hairs so far.
I backed off the light power to 1000w with 600w HPS and 400w MH to get the frost really going and reduce the light burn I was getting on the fans closest to the light, they just kept wanting to suicide into the bulb. XD

Other then that I gave one clone away to a friend so I have 5 full rooted clones of the Deep Cheese in solo's ready to go once this run is done and the two remaining 12/12 from seed plants have begun to throw lots of pistils which could be due to me adding some Bud Storm to my water at half strength for a test run but they are both about 26" tall and the one in the 1L pot will need to be transplanted to a bigger pot or something as the plant now outweighs the pot/coco/rootball and won't stay standing unsupported I may pot it into another pot without removing the smaller one because I wanted to test see which plant performed better.

How much longer does the community here think I should take these girls?

  9. Well im a lazy ass and haven't been around but the Deep Cheese yielded around 3oz, 3.5oz each from bagseed #1 & #2 and the 12/12 from seeds are not weighed because I barely kept them alive to harvest thanks to moving house and an intense Fungus Gnat infestation.

I am now in a new house and once I have things sorted and everything I will be getting a whole room to myself rather then a simple tent. There is also a small built-in cupboard that I am utilizing as my veg area for the moment.

Currently in veg I have 4 Deep Cheese in 6L pots (roughly), a self topping White Widow in a solo cup and a Fruity Chronic Juice & Lemon Kush both the same age. In flower I have a Deep Cheese that is starting to throw pistils in the last two days.

  10. Forgot the pictures and the veg is running 400w hps and the flower is 600w hps

  11. Cool grow! The gnats are a bitch I'm in the process of killing them now before they get way out of control!
How long did your clones take before they started growing new leaves? I also want to know about the autos you brought! How are they looking?

  12. Cheer man, it is good to keep on top of them bastards hard. I think it was about 3 weeks before they started growing and it was nearly a month and a half before they grew more then single blade leaves but the gnats may have caused a massive slowdown and the autos I gave away but kept a couple kc45 for outdoor play because I like being able to have a plant to clone from if I like it.

  13. Ok so one month on the gnats are nearly completely gone although the damage is still showing and i have one deep cheese about 30 days into flower and another that is about 7 days. Fruity Chronic Juice and Lemon Kush are both looking good and so is the mutated White Widow if a little light bleached, Deep Cheese plants are starting to really take off considering how messed up they were from the root damage and they have many tops from my wild topping earlier on in the veg. Everything in veg is about 1.5ft to 2ft from a 400 hps in a hood depending on pot/plant height.
