Hot water made spoon design fade away?

Discussion in 'Smoking Pipes, Glass Spoon Pipes' started by FRESH_SMOKER, Mar 14, 2015.

  1. Well I recently bought an awesome spoon pipe from a friend and decided to clean it out with hot TAP water.

When I did that the hot water seemed to make the drawing and designs on my pipe slightly fade away, good thing I noticed it before it became noticeable to others.

You'd only notice the faded away design under bright light & the design is in the insides.

So why'd this happen? Does it happen to all glass pipes? What would happen if I boiled it?

    Thanks GC! [IMG] [IMG]

  2. It sounds like it's a color changing pipe.

  3. The resin makes color show better, smoke a ton out of it and the color should come back!

  4.
Oh no, it's definitely the color that changed, not the residue. Thx for trying to help anyways!

    Definitely not haha

its a decal or paint on the inside.

That is done with silver fume, ir sure as fuck will not come off if done right.

could be silver fume was not put on a hot pipe. That would be hard to do as glass torches are hot as fuck.

I made a pipe the other day and the silver fume and color is on the outside.

The blueish purple on the bowl side is silver fume.

Here is my new glass torch, A GTT Cheetah. Fucker turns borosilicate glass to soup no trouble.

Thank you very much for giving me details. You make pipes? Wow that must be a cool job!

  7. I'll post a picture but I don't know how to post a picture.

  8. check out snoops glassblowing thread.

  9. looks to me like the resin has made the piece darker then it was orginally so when the resin is gone it looks less vibrant. like someone above said, if you like the way it looks resined up just re-resin it after cleaning it well.  hot water cant strip color from glass.
