Does your belief have a dark side?

  1. Examples, please.

  2. Maybe. Does yours? You get on here and seem to question others and not explain yourself on any viewpoint.

  3. I explain myself.

I just do it after the OP typically.

and most of my questions aren't personal so I don't see a problem.

  4. Yes and I am a very conflicted person.

I believe there should be no forms of gun control. I believe guns are necessary as the final line of defense for civilians. Many times one could be dead before cops or military show up. I also do not believe in regulation or registrations. Registrations lead to confiscations. And regulations lead to total bans over time. Not only that but part of the purpose of the second amendment, is essentially to allow the entire population to be a voluntary army if America ever faced an invading threat. In world war 2 this is exactly what prevented the Japanese from invading the mainland. Is there a dark side? Sire. The idea that crazy people can easily obtain guns can be scary indeed. I believe it to be a necessary risk.

I believe in the idea Carl Marx had about industry. How our industry is so effective that hypothetically everyone should be able to live a comfortable life and not slave away full time for survival. He said we should have more time for leisure. But on the flip side, this would make a society less productive overall. Could this harm society?

I like the idea of freedom and free market. I believe government is just a glorified Mafia. But while pondering the ideals of volunteerism I've had some dilemmas. What does a voluntary society do when a small groups of elites voluntarily "cheat" society into a pyramid scheme?

How can a society provide for everyone without the use of force? Is it really impossible to have a voluntary Communist anarchy?

I am pro life. I am often seen as a devil who would force a woman to.give birth to a rape child. I admit the idea of a woman being punished for rape isn't something I enjoy. Its too bad there aren't ways to allow the child to live, while releasing the mother from the pregnancy.

Maybe I can think of more later

  5. Everyone has what most people would define as a "dark" side because no one is in control of their own thoughts to begin with.  The difference is, not everyone acts or is convinced by these thoughts that they should actually act on them.

  6. I think you misunderstood the op.

He wasn't asking if you have a dark side.

He was asking if your beliefs have a dark side, or more accurately I assume, if you realize the consequences of your own beliefs, or are you blinded and arrogant thinking your beliefs are pure

  7. Nah, my belief system does not. Everything is equal and it's our own perceptions that color that into something else. Sometimes I think for belief systems that have that dark side, if the belief system isn't really that dark side in a candy wrapper.

  8. could you elaborate?

    -yuri

  9.
    On which part?

  10. the whole thing.

Maybe start with why you believe everything is equal and dark is subjective.

I'm not a Buddhist, but I've studied Buddhist philosophy for a few years and I follow a spiritual path along those lines. There is no light/dark, good/evil, however you want to describe it. When you're seeing evil it's because your perception is being filtered to only see evil, and when you're seeing good you're perception is being filtered to see good. When you see good or evil, you are putting an emotional attachment and judgment to something, and that emotional attachment and judgment is only something that exists in your mind. So, that judgment and attachment isn't actually real, it's created out of your own fear. My belief system doesn't create that attachment or judgment. As I accept myself and who I am without judgment, I accept everything without judgment. I may not agree with something, but my aversion to something does not make it evil it just makes it not for me.

This is a really quick and dirty explanation, Yuri. Feel free to ask questions if you need to. The second part:

So, if you've got a belief system that incorporates a good/evil dichotomy then you are generally worshipping the opposite of what you think you are. Many books have been written about this idea, so I'm just going to leave this with a simple example to give an idea of what I'm talking about. DISCLAIMER: It's a general statement, this example doesn't apply 100% to everything, it's not meant to. It's just an example.

A lot of christan churches spend a lot of time talking about the devil, watching out for evil, sin, etc. A case could be made that the people that go to that church are actually worshipping evil, sin and the devil because instead of spending that sunday morning exploring the positive aspects of their religion (love, brotherhood, etc.) they choose to spend it delving on the evil side.

While thats a very general example, the thoughts behind it can apply to just about anything that has been divided by perception into a positive/negative. A lot of people misunderstand the Yin/Yang symbol. They think it is showing 2 halves. Light and dark together, needing eachother in some kind of symbiotic relationship. In reality, the Yin/Yang symbol is showing, "Hey, you perceive two opposite pieces combined into one thing. But this is really just one whole with no halves or opposites".

  12. I assume you are talking about a belief system. You worship evil if you let evil control your life.

I'm guessing you wouldn't say a women and her child getting axe murdered isn't evil.

  13. I AM a dark side.

  14.
I would say that. Anyone getting axe murdered is tragic. It's sad. It's a terrible situation. But I would never say that it's evil. Thinking in terms of evil and good is superstitious and short sighted.

  15. dobyou believe axe murdered should be stopped and or punished?

    -yuri

  16.
Of course. Society doesn't thrive when people are running around axe murdering people. Just because I don't believe in evil doesn't mean that there is no right or wrong. People (I'm speaking generally, not about you specifically) tend to believe right/wrong come from the Christian ideas of good/evil. That's entirely silly.

  17.  Only inasmuch as 'shit happens'....

  18. I think I understand.

    -yuri

  19. I like your belief system, Buddhism huh?

  20.
Mainly, yeah. Not as a religion, but as a philosophy. You're just dealing with yourself on your own path.
