  1. this is kinda old news, but still important..

don't forget to get up and go for a walk.

but for people with office jobs, who are "forced" to sit all day... this is a serious problem. combine that with shitty diet.... and you have the epidemics of nasty diseases that we have today.

  2. college has killed me. I hate it. Im training to be a sitter. WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE

  3. From being a guy who has seen the incredible creative and sensual stimulation from long walks, yeah you don't want to camp out in a chair as your lifestyle. With that being said, moderation fails to seem like a problem for me, and is good in some cases. Hey most of the great art, reading, and gaming comes from sitting down. Stretch regularly and walk at least 1.5 hrs a day and you should be in the clear.

there was an interesting topic on reddit.
What are the cigarettes of today? What does everyone think is healthy, but is not?

also regarding creativity.. many artists (painters, musicians, singers, architects, sculptors, chefs etc.) prefer to stand at work or at least you see them standing instead of sitting very often.

is it just a personal choice? or does standing allow more room for creativity?

    I love these studies.

"After accounting for multiple controls... 20% increased mortality rate"

So if you eat red meat and sit a lot you are 40% more likely to die early

Add in smoking drinking and stress.

Why areny wwe all dead already?

i guess if you just decide to sit down for a stake while having a smoke, i doubt you'll die on the spot ...
but... if you do all of those things over many years, and live under constant stress...  chances are you'll keel over by the time your are in you early 50's.

or you will be in pretty poor health and on various medications for lowering cholesterol to blood pressure to improving gastrointestinal dysfunction.

i think the main point of these studies is that constricted movement of any kind leads to health problems. (whether it's 20% mortality or 5% obesity, neither is acceptable).
and these concepts aren't really new. TCM described similar patterns in terms of "qi".

either way, or bodies weren't designed to sit in front of one screen for 8 hours, then sit in the car, then fall asleep in front of another screen. (that's a sad reality for many people).

  7. Did the study take into account people who sit a lot but have a rigorous exercise routine?

I'm curious if restricted movement is the problem, or if we are just out of shape.

It definitely damages you less when you have muscle mass to hold your body in place when you're still, once you go through a phase of having "buns of steel" you'll see what good padding feels like [IMG]

  9. It's possible that people who sit all day, eat bad food and the crap remains clogged from bent bowels. Haha

Luckily I'm on my feet nearly 16 hours a day, i sit during my commutes...

    good question.

i think this can be attributed to myofascial constriction... mostly judging based on how trigger point therapy and acupuncture seem to help with aches and pains, which are pretty much directly acquired from office jobs.
