Potting soil and Nutrients questions

  1. Hey guys I am gearing up for my first grow and have done some pretty extensive research here on the forums. I've obtained everything I need, the only thing I have left to take care of is some good potting soil for the plants.

I've seen everyone recommending FoxFarms potting mix, but I still have some questions.
If I use the FoxFarms light warrior seed starter mix to germinate my plant, can i keep it in that same soil and just add nutrients when I water?
In terms of nutrients I have some Espoma Plant-Tone (5-3-3), Schultz All purpose plant food (20-30-20), and a bag of bone meal. I also have some hydroponic "Advanced Nutrients" that my friend gave me (Micro, Grow, Bloom) which are meant for cultivating cannabis. I was thinking I could dissolve these in water and dilute for watering my soil plant. Any thoughts?

Essentially, I am asking what is the right soil choice for me considering the nutrients that I already have and should I get any other nutrients?

  2. You can go with ff or go with a peat base soil. You have nutes for both organic and non. It's really up to you at this point what direction you think would suit you best. The epsoma and bone meal are for organic growing.(don't quote me on it)
And the ff you have I believe only has enough nutes in the soil to get you through a few weeks of veg at the most.

Someone with way more experience should chime in soon

  3. Ffof will get you about 4 weeks into veg. If you use lightwarrior only use it for the seedling stage, like a solo cup full and then transfer into something else. Light warrior is really overpriced, it's a seedling soil so it really doesn't have shit in it. Honestly just get a cheaper seedling soil to start in a solo cup with, then transplant into your final container filled with a good soil. I person play use ffof, but I'm pretty new so I have yet to try other soils. I did try and use a potting soil from Home Depot before and it was terrible. Have had great success with ffof.

As for nutes, I would use those hydroponic nutes you have. Organics take time to break down and really with organics you should mix everything into your soil then let that mix sit out for about a month to get everything to start breaking down. There is a lot more to organics than just measuring and dumping nutes on your soil. Anyways hoped this helped out some.

  4. You should use the micro, grow, bloom in some peat based mix with lots of perlite/vermiculite. (Promix or Sunshine mix is good.)

  5. Correct me if I'm wrong but I was thinking that since I would be adding liquid nutrients to the soil with the waterings anyway I could just keep it growing in a large pot of the seedling mix to avoid transplanting.
Also would anyone have any advice on diluting the hydro nutes for soil watering? I searched and searched but couldn't find any anecdotal reports of people diluting stealth hydro nutes for soil grows. From other people's experiences with other liquid nutes they diluted by a factor of 4 or 8. Should I just experiment starting with very low concentrations and increase until beginning signs of stress?
    Thanks for the advice guys

  6. I would just start them in ocean forest or happy frog. Light warrior is the same price if not more for a near inert medium. Why not use a soil that will feed the plants for a while and save on nutes.

Out of the choices of nutrient you have I would go with the advanced nutrients. It's always a good idea to start around 1/4 strength and adjust dosage and frequency of feedings as you see how the plants react.

  7.
Advanced Nutrients are specifically made for cannabis, so you don't need to dilute them... just follow the directions on the bottle. I don't know what's in your seedling mix, so I don't want to give you advice on that. I suggest instead to use a nutrient free soil less medium like promix or coco coir. When you start adding nutrients to soil that already has nutrients in it, that's when you can start having issues.

  8. Hey everyone sorry if I'm posting wrong but I'm a noob here I'm on a 2nd grow and I came across this soil called "Pamper your plant" from a Canadian based company, it has Canadian sphagnum and worm casting and says 100% organic, has anyone tried it or knows about it ? What else would I need to add with it just given the ingredients

  9. I run a soiless promix. Am i supposed to ph the soil. How do u do this( ph up and water?)

My nutes are about 5.5 ph
    My soil tests about 7
    Why arent they evening out?

Is this whats supposed to happen.?

  10. Thanks for the help GC. I've decided to start my seedlings in a local peat based soil that's just mixed with some perlite.
I plant to transplant it into a mix of FoxF ocean farm and dolomite lime, and wait until it eats through the nutes in the soil. Then I'll start adding the hydro nutes starting at very low concentrations.

I will be growing a white widow x big bud cross strain and going to be really putting a lot of light ~500W CFL and LED into this plant to get it monstrous. I'm letting it take up as much room as it needs in a 4x4 tent. I'll be posting a log as it grows if you want to see how it goes.

    Cheers
