Van Life

  1. Hello, So, I just wanted to share something I am preparing for.

First a little about me-I am 24 years old, I served in the army, and I have a bad back which I now receive disability for. It is not a lot, but if i didn't have rent I could easily live on it, plus have some saved.
I also work as a concert photographer freelancing picking up work whenever I can.
This year I have about 6 festivals booked in different states.

I LOVE to travel...like, love to travel. It is a passion of mine, seeing new places, doing new things. It looked like I would be doing a LOT of traveling this year for work, but usually that is by plane...

not this time. This year I have decided to sell pretty much almost everything I own, and save more money, travel, and not pay rent. It is going to be an adventure for sure, I am buying a van (class B motorhome) and I am just going to travel around the country enjoying life for a while!

If you want to follow along, like the FB Page i set up, which also has a link to some more info. The FB Page I will use to constantly update people on my location and what I am doing.

  2. Sounds like a good adventure, good luck man. Do you have an instagram?

  3. @Jsl_Photograph is the instagram, I also have a FB Page www.facebook.com/jslphotography and for this trip itself, www.facebook.com/concertsacrossthecountry

This is Daniel Norris a pro baseball player with millions who lives in a van. That sounds like a hell of an adventure dude.

  5. I actually read his story, a friend of mine sent it to me after she found out what i had planned, and it was super inspirational...good enough for a millionaire? Ive slept in the desert, in the woods, not slept because I had to pull guard or patrol or whatever...I figure a van will be comfortable haha.

If anyone wants to follow the journey like i said: like this FB page, im going to keep it fairly up to date: www.facebook.com/concertsacrossthecountry

and Instagram @Jsl_photograph (I would be lying if i said I wasnt addicted to instagram, but as a photographer...I am)

  6. That sounds awesome man, and something I never really thought of. I may have to do that when I leave my parents place, I want my life to be full of adventure. Good luck with your journey!

  7. Good luck man. I'm following on Facebook.

I dont have facebook but like where your head is at. Did you know there is a VA hospital in the Philippines? You can live nicely on a island there for a $1000 a month.

Also I have been looking at vans and stuff to live out of. Have you bought yet? If not look into a flippac.

  11.
while those look nice the van has a lot more space for a lot less hassle and a lot more security you know?
\n\nThis weekend-as those of you following me on FB or instagram may have seen I got a little test run with a mini van that I rented to head up to Sweetwater 420 Festival. It worked out well. A mini van wouldn't be a bad choice for short term trips but the lack of a fridge became an apparent issue quickly, as did the lack of a separate power source to run an AC unit.

  12. My main reason I'm staying away from vans is I think a truck or SUV would be easier to work on, but I have looked at a lot of vans. When I outfit whatever vehicle I end up with I'm going with a high quality cooler like a yeti over a plug in fridge like a Engel MT45. Stopping to get ice will be a welcomed chore on the road. I think if you want a mini-van a ASTRO mini van thats AWD would be sweet. Can I ask what your budget is? Older GTRV'S and pleasure-way traverse vans are sweet b/c they look like a stock van on the outside but are campered out on the inside.

  14. So, I will be traveling by plane for a bit...just got booked for some work in Chicago, POSSIBLY Montana,-then off to Colorado (YAY!!!) for a bit, possibly into Utah, then out to California.

Then I will be flying back to Florida,

In June I will be on the road again, heading for Bonnaroo in Manchester TN.

  15.
Budget for the van itself is around 3500. I have a few in mind, but the issue is that I am traveling so much in between that i havent had time to actually look at them. I would love to find an old dodge sprinter van.

  16. So your well enough to travel, but not enough to work? Disability is there for people that need it, I wouldn't brag about how working tax payers get to pay for your adventure...

  17. Travel to Oregon and Nor cal area. You won't regret it. The scenery is beautiful.

  18. He could of been blown up and hurt his back for all you know. Its VA Disability from time in service. You can collect VA disabilty and still work. He is not bragging, he is lucky he survived and that the VA compensates for his injury's. How you respond is why lots of vets feel like shit about their injury's.

  19. Awesome....I have read some of the sprinter diesel engines have head problems and cost a arm and a leg to fix so what out for that.

OOh, Gee, I'm sorry, Do you believe that Uncle Sam shoulda said "screw you" when I returned home? Because I decide to not let my disability keep me from traveling, becoming more educated, and learning about the world you attack me without knowing me? While not realizing the full fact that while traveling I am working as a photographer? Way to judge.

ESPECIALLY if you read the FIRST post where it even says I am traveling for work.

Yeah, I know that the engines can have issues if not well maintained, the backup plan on that one is a Subaru Boxer Engine.

Also, Bob, thank you for not being so quick to judge.
