im a newbie to the grow world, and ive been reading a lot on this site but im in need of advice tailored to me. I have a small grow closet with four plants about 2 weeks and 3 days along. the lighting was very weak and made them stretch. luckily I was able to get grow lights and their slowing down. still pretty tall for the space I have. they are at their 3rd node already and I was wondering could I go ahead and top it??? thanks for any advice in advance!
yeh sure you can theres no real time limit for topping or get to a certain amount of nodes/stems before topping. you're growing in a closet therefore i assume space especially height is an issue therefore i would go ahead & top them as by topping you will get all the bottom/side shoots growing making a more even canopy. If you need2 keep topping the new top shoots that'll come from sides of where you originally topped them as this makes sure your canopy is even & lush maximizing your space (you might not need2 but its an option if toiling in space?) You really do not want 2b hacking your ladies too much but what i usually do is top my plants 1 week & wait at least another 10 days then i can see the spindly shoots & the good healthy looking stems/shoots & prune away the spindly ones for a couple of reasons 1. it gets shot of low producing stems/shoots & concentrates its juices in growing the bigger healthy shoots/stems 2.it also helps open your plant up letting the air circulate within the plant & more importamntly lets light into places that would get covered by they spindly/thin stems/shoots. Also by topping do not think this will stop your plant growing in height as the whole plant is growing & it will still continue in growing height wise it slows it down but won't stop it getting higher thats why i mentioned the part about waiting 10 days & top the top again if needed when pruning away they spindly/thin ones (pmsl christ you can see i'm no teacher "top the top ones!!" , ha ha , you'll see what i mean after 10+ days trust me) But yeh go on man top away You learn by doing my friend glad you're another grower Enjoy the experience & your stuff , grown by yourself is gonna be the best shit you've smoked in years !!
