Ash Tray Mystery detective time

Discussion in 'Real Life Stories' started by Algore, Mar 6, 2015.

  1. Probably one of the weirder things that's ever happened in my smoking career just happened. So I smoke out in my garage at a table usually and just over night my ash tray veryyyy mysteriously broke into like 4-5 pieces. It was in the exact same place on the table that it always is, but for no currently explainable reason it had broken into shards. My best theory right now is that possibly the freezing night temperatures did it in over time and caused cracks over time without me realizing it.

The other factor is that my cat is a vengeful fucker and, has knocked off just about every glass of water I forget about out on that table. I really wouldn't put it past him to find some weird way to break the glass just to see my reaction or something. Probably shouldn't be so baked while talking about conspiracy theories of a cat breaking something, it was just a weird occurrence, anyone else have theories of how an ash tray could suddenly break overnight?

  2. Who else lives with you?
Do they also have access to the garage?

Unless you live in Antarctica cant see the cold shattering it mate.

One of life's wee mysterys lol

  5. Nobody else living here would ever feel the need to break an ash tray lol. I still don't get it, it was an ash tray that I didn't use very often so there's a small chance it had an inner crack that I'd never spotted but that still doesn't explain why it would suddenly split into multiple pieces.

  6. It's what he does man. If I leave any paper out in the garage he will purposely piss on the floor and get it on his paws and then walk all over the paper to make it reek. He's torn up important paperwork in the past lol, he has some serious hate for me

  7. How cold did it get? Was it a thin or thick ash tray? My guess would be the cold.

  8. Well it's been in the 20s and 30s a few nights in a row and the roof in my garage has a couple of leaky spots that I haven't fixed yet. It was a decently thick standard ash tray. One of my new theories is that there may be a leak right over the table that dropped some water into the ash tray that froze over night and assisted in it cracking in multiple spots, could have been touched by someone that caused it to fall apart without anyone noticing. Such a weird occurence

  9. Not cold enough for it to freeze and shatter, but if water got in it and froze I guess it's a possibility... Sometimes glass just gets weak over time from repeated heating and freezing and something that wouldn't normally shatter it will.

  10. That's some crazy shit to hear on a Friday night.

  11. I have cats and agree, they are devious and creative.

On a new note you should look into a "Tap dat ash" as it'll be rather indestructible.

I'm certain it has to be from temperature fluctuations. like someone else said ceramic and glass (probably other stuff too) get weaker with constant heating and cooling. an ashtray would probably have additional temperature fluctuations from bits of charring weed dropping inside, roaches, plus the standard ones from weather changes.

could also be that it got real cold, causing the thing to become more brittle, then the cat walked on it and crunched it or something.

OR better better yet, a stalactite-esque water droplet formed above, and froze when it got cold, then as it heated up, the narrowest part melted fastest, causing it to fall and shatter the ashtray.

or the cat just knocked something onto it, the item fell on the floor so you can't see.

was  ash still on the shards when you found them? like, did it break in the same spot you left it?

  13. Kitties dont smoke so wtf are you blaming the kitties for ?  :poke:

only kidding fella, Kitties do smoke but its probs 4 the best if you add water before they burn

  14. Yeah the temperature fluctuations is a good bet. Yeah it was broken in the exact spot it always sits, it's kinda my backup ash tray in case my main tray gets full since I usually extract thc out of decent ash matter and stems, sooo there's wasn't any ash in it. My bet now is that the glass just had temp fluctuations for a long period of time and dealt with freezing temperatures so much that finally just my cat stepping on it or touching it somehow was just enough force to break it. Funny though because I kinda wish that it would've spontaneously broken from me ashing a bowl into it.

lol a perfect thing for Bubbles to tell me.

  15. I want to suss this shit out. Can we get pics of the crime scene? I want to see what kind of ashtray this is and what the deal is with the table. I think we can solve it if we all put our heads together and get all Jessica Fletcher on this.

  16. Ive had buddies leave bongs in their sheds over the winter, as the shed was used as a spot to smoke, the one guy came out one morning to find his bong completely frozen solid! So he grabbed a new one. And set the frozen one off to the side. A few months after winter (we're in canada) he checked the spot he had left it out of curiosity, and there was just a pile if glass, the cold can do crazy shieeet

  18. This is like the mystery of the Urinal Deuce. Maybe the Hardly Boys could solve this mystery? All they would need to do is find some clues :p.

I'm sure OP is no longer concerned about this matter.
