Question about duct fan wear and tear

  1. Hey everyone, just a quick question regarding duct fans

I have a ventech 4 inch duct fan that is supposed to be pushing 190 cfm. When I first set up my tent and ductwork about a month and a half ago, I could definitely feel quite a bit of air coming out the exhaust. Now it's a MUCH MUCH weaker breeze than it used to be. Is this normal? Temps haven't changed a bit or it's been such a slight difference I haven't noticed. I still have the fan warranty and everything, I also realize it probably wasn't a high quality fan that I bought but it is still doing the job.

Guess I'd like to ask for recommendation for a good brand to get after this cycle or the next to replace the ventech. I'd love a 6 inch fan or something with more power, but the loudness is definitely a limiting factor. My little 4 inch is in the sweet spot as far as acceptable noise goes right now. If I'm thinking long term then LED lights are probably better for me than HIDs due to the situation but that's something I'll look into a little more when I have a couple successful grows under my belt so that I know it'll pay for itself.

  2. Do you use a filter of some sort to help prevent foreign material to gather on the fan and create heat build up and eventually destroying your fan. Im really slow so this took me a couple fans to figure it out LOL. Hope this helps you out.

  3.
Yeah I use a carbon filter, is that not good enough for the purpose? I just assumed everyone ran only a carbon filter directly to the fan

  4. Could the filter be dirty or clogged?

  5. You better check to see if the fans your using are designed for carbon scrubbers. You may be over working the fan by pulling air through the filter. I was thinking more along the lines of something like a furnace filter or something very thin that will not restrict the air flow tomuch.

  6.  the cotton wrap that goes around the outside of it is certainly dirty, can I just throw it in the wash and clean it? Only issue is that fan runs 24/7 so I'd have to turn it off or carbon would go everywhere

As far as if the fan is designed for a carbon scrubber.. I sure hope so. They were sold together in a bundle, both by the same brand. I don't think ventech would make a bunch of carbon scrubbers that don't work with their own fans lol

  7. Honestly I don't know. I don't run a filter. I do know when a filter is dirty it over works the fan.

  8. I'm gonna try to wash the cover and if not I'll just buy another they're pretty cheap. It is very dirty and we live in a pretty dusty place so hopefully the fan hasn't been too overworked if that's what's causing it

  9. I had a vantech 6" that burned up, started rattling and crap, but i also had a 6" ipower carbon filter, replaced fan and just replaced filter with 6" phresh filter and i can tell you the old filter caused the fan to burn up. The phresh filter breathes 100 times better and that makes your fan run quieter.

How dirty is the outer filter?

  11. Took a second look and the outer part is not nearly as dirty as I thought. I wanted to replace it with a larger one anyways so maybe ill just make that sooner rather than later
