Got caught with paraphernalia in the dorm.

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Bobby Johnson, Mar 6, 2015.

  1. I have a court date set. So what are things looking like? Kicked out of dorms, kicked out of college? Jail time? I don't know what to do at this point.

  2. Say it was not yours and someone left it there without your knowledge
    never admit to anything
    fight fight fight

  4. Depends on your state laws and school policies.

  5. Idk just fight it what else can you do. DefInitely depends on state and school but I can't imagine it being THAT big a deal. Maybe st most kicked out of dorm but idk about school. But are they really kicking college kids out of dorms for pipes? Idk. Act confused and innocent. Probably will be a slap on the wrist.

  6. I guess you can say you learned something in college. Don't stash shot in the dorms.

  7. In my school, for a first time offense, you get a drug rehab course if you get caught smoking weed in the dorms. You should read your dorm rules paper they make you sign before you live there.

  8.  I swear. Why are some people so desperate to smoke that they have to smoke in such inappropriate places? Do you smoke for legitimate medical issues in a state where it is legal? If so then own up to it. If you are using it medically in an illegal state than deny it's yours. If you smoke for recreational purposes than I have no empathy for you.

  9. I wasn't smoking, it was my roommate who was. I just happened to have my grinder there when it was searched. I never smoke in the dorms because, as we all know, it's a foolish decision, and I never gave a fuck if my roommates did until now. So I just had my grinder at the wrong place at the wrong time. And I don't care about empathy, I'm just looking for advice at this point.

I'm going to read over it. It's a first offense and I can bring in some witnesses saying I wasn't actually smoking.

  10. I mean come on dude, we're you never a teenager that smoked pot?

What person just folds and listens to the rules because that's the state laws. This kid did what 99% of other college kids do but got caught. I wouldn't say it's desperate, I think it's exploring and experimenting like we all did and unfortunately this young lad got dealt an shitty card.

I know I wasn't 18 being like "hey, I'm not using this medically so I'll wait 20 years to smoke pot when my state changes its laws."

OP, educate yourself, I think you'll be ok. Shit happens.

  11. Thanks bro. I'm going to try to fight this. I'm in a state with total marijuana prohibition so this is not a good situation. I'm just lucky there wasn't any weed in the grinder. I can't believe I was the one to get fucked for my roommate smoking though. I should have declined the search request.

  12. It sucks. You think you'll be all legal savvy when the time comes but really the heat of the moment and forceful cops usually stop anyone from thinking straight. We've all had close calls or have been straight caught. What state? Really no weed at all is a big plus. Lawyer up and just go through the motions. It sucks but you'll get through it.

You could have refused the search?  I smoked in college, but found places other than the dorm to smoke. I know all about experimenting, but you need common sense, too.  The first rule about smoking cannabis in a non legal state is not getting caught.  Good luck, I hope this works out fine for you.
I don't think it's a shitty card he was dealt, but a wakeup call.

  14.  People who don't want to get thrown out of college? You can martyr for your cause all you want but I'm not going to jail to prove a point to people who don't give a shit.

  15. I should know my rights better. The only thing that resulted in me cooperating with the police is getting in trouble. So two lessons learned. Don't smoke weed, ever, and don't cooperate with the cops when you don't have to.

Did you consent to the search. was the grinder in plain view, did anyone say the stuff was theirs or did you both go down on the charge?
If it was in plain view the evidence is addmissable if they just started ripping through your draws and found it then it should be thrown out due to illegal search and seizure (unless it is spelled out in the dorm agreement that they have the right to do so.
You may want to speak to a free pot lawyer if there are any in the area.
If it was you friends weed they found than he should say so this way only one of you will be booted.

Tell the judge its a herb grinder that you use for teas and spices

  17. Dude, don't stop smoking weed, you have to be more careful.  I have no idea how to hide weed in a dorm room.  Good luck to you.
And you're right, never invite the police in without a warrant.  They will try and trick you.  I know standing up for your rights is hard and the police will say only guilty people do that, but there are many reasons you don't want them in your home/dorm room.  Don't ever lie to them, just make sure they have a warrant.  Don't know that goes in a college dorm.

  18. LOCK ALL YOUR SHIT IN A PERSONAL SUITCASE

dorm cops usually can dig around drawers/cabinets because its university property, but not personal locked property

  19. what's wrong with recreational smoking? Just because we don't have some kind of ailment to justify burning you look down upon recreational smokers?

  20. When I get enough money after I pay a lawyer and fines that'll probably pop up, I'll get a book in law and brush up on my rights. Because I don't know shit about how any of this stuff works. But I won't smoke for at least a year. It's just too risky. I feel like some random drug tests will be done.
