how to find yourself when you are lost

Discussion in 'General' started by tetoleetd, Mar 4, 2015.

  1. so im at a cross roads in my life. i am in my mid 20's and have nothing to show for it. ive had no ambition for most of my life. or maybe i did have ambition but didnt have the confidence to act on it. ive always been shy, timid, afraid. basically i have been lost. ive had no idea what to do with my life. i despise the idea of having a job that i know i will hate.

so i need some advice. how does one find themselves? how does one find out what they want to do for the rest of their life and pursue it? i never finished college although i am pretty smart. i am thinking of going back and just working to get a 2 year degree in something. its better than nothing. its better than what i have right now. my brother didnt finish college until he was 30 and he ended up with a decent job and a wife and a family. so i guess thats a good example for me to follow. im still young enough to do this and make this happen, i just need to find out what "this" is.

  6. I'm in the same boat irs rough. I'm working at a job I don't hate but it's not what I wanna be doing right now at 23. I don't know what I wanna do for a career. I want a good job but I don't want a job that interferes with smokin when I want to cause I'm too committed to this lifestyle it would be a drastic change if I had to stop smokin and being involved with weed the rest of my life. I always think about careers and what I should do but I never act on anything I start it but don't finish it. It sucks man I feel like I'm waisting my life

  7. we are all in this together guys. right now im on google doing some research about good jobs you can get with an associates degree. its all gonna come down to just having the balls to pursue it. nothing is stopping us but ourselves in most cases.

  8. I have to quit being a quitter too. I quit enough great things already

  9. Sounds like you wanna become a chef man, I'd say at least 75% of the chefs I know me included smoke or have smoked, the rest are dosed up on redbull or beer. It's a good career aswell you just need to put up with stressful shifts now and again.

Man I typed out a huge long thing and accidentally deleted it.  I'm gonna try again.

Basically..... fuck capitalism.  Why you gotta have something to show for? Money and assets don't measure a man.  You measure a man by how much people love him.  How much good does he put out into this world.

Go out into the world and get your hands dirty.  Fail.  Get up and try again. Fail again. Try new things.  Learn.  Gain experiences. Try many different jobs. Try to do things people say you can't do.  Travel. Get cultured. Meet people.  Build and maintain strong relations.  Smash your TV. Smash your ego.  Get high as fuck all day every day for months on end and ponder the deeper meanings of life.  Expand your mind and think outside the box.  Me personally, I refuse to be a sheep.  You don't need to go to college or university to be educated.  True wealth comes from good health and wise ways. Wisdom comes from life experiences.

I'm in my 30's and I'm still finding myself and I damn sure hope I never stop finding myself.  Basically IMO when you've "found yourself" you have essentially given up and quit growing and learning. Who knows.... maybe it's just the ways of a Nomad.

just a little bit of what urbs thinkin this morning. :smoking:

  12. I just typed up a huge ass response only for it to get deleted lol.

Anywho, find something you enjoy or something that makes you happy and pursue it. Life's way too short.

  13. A lot of sense in those paragraphs urb, I'm totally with you on knowledge doesn't come from schools as much as it does life experience. I've worked in a pub for 4 years and the locals 30-80s have taught me more then the schools ever could!

    Cheers!
Education is great but there are plenty other paths in life and many other ways to seek and gain knowledge and money.

  15. Try making a list of your favorite things in life. From there, select any of those things and try to see if you can envision any job, or hobby (one with lucrative potential, perhaps) that involves that activity. If you spend enough time contemplating things you love (or finding new things that you love) you will find a path that captivates your passions :)

There are other ideas that I have, but this is a gooooood place to start. It always has helped me when I felt aimless.

  18. If you're any good at talking with other humans, sales is a great way to earn a living.  I have a few friends who didn't do the college thing and have been making good money for the last 10 years or so.

I hate humans so it doesn't work for me unfortunately.

  19. Get a job.

Theres nothing like a crap job to light a fire under your buns...trust me.

    Been there done that.

Step one starts with you, then sign up for college and take a class here and there or commit to part time, or full time.

As a full time student grants will pay for your education. Fill out your FASFA form today. Sign up online at a local community college :) Lots of nice goal oriented girls at school too.

You are a blank slate with endless possibilities my friend :D
