3 gallons enough?

  1. I was all set on finishing in this 3 gal pot. I plan on vegging to 12-16" then flipping. The photos are 10 days after TP from 1gal to 3gal. So with flowering were talking close to 90 days in this pot.

  2. I think it depends on a few things Scotty - your grow area size, your lighting and how much herb you're looking to harvest. I think you could safely harvest several ounces per plant with 3 gallon pots, but 3's are probably as low as you'd want to go in soil. If you're running a good light & have room then putting them into a bigger pot will only help them get bigger. Bigger root system means more nutrition intake = bigger plants = bigger harvest... but again it depends on your situation. I personally really like bigger pots, but you can get away with 3's in a pinch. Ive also seen issues with plants becoming rootbound in 3's though, so...

  3. Sweeeeeeet looking plant. Wouldn't strain also be a factor?

Thanks for the compliment. I love just staring at it. It'll be a sad day when I have to kill her😥. It's in an organic mix & I have yet to feed it and don't intend to except top dress it with some EWC

You'd think squat bushy strains can do better in small containers. I'm thinking I'll have to flower a little earlier.

Speaking of strains, I just wrote Nirvana and sent this photo. This does NOT look like an indica to me. Does it to you? All aurora indica photos I find show fat leaves. I'm growing for CBD and I'll be bummed if this isn't AI

  5. Looks Sativa dominate

  6. Several oz's in a 3 gal? Don't get me dreamin! I hope to reap an oz or two at the most especially since I'm a bit spooked about rootbound and I don't want to linger too long before I flip. Is there a lot of root growth during flower? What issues have you seen?

  7. I think that most would agree that you could get several ounces from a 3 gallon pot of organic soil.

Maybe if you just count on getting a single ounce you'll be surprised LOL

    Good luck man.

  8. 3 gallon is my max size. lol  i grow my plants to 5-6 feet in 3 gallon pots without issue (in organic soil). i currently have a breeding run going and these plants are 20-24 inches @ 3 weeks into flower and they are in 2 liter pots SOG style.

i think organic soils seem to support larger canopy mass area per root mass area though, just an opinion really.

  9. That is the most Sativa looking Indica I've ever seen. My particular Indica has 3 very fat lobes per leaf and that's it. Not even the 2 little sub leaves next to the leaf stem.

Still, a healthy looking plant whatever the genetics.

Several ounces would be expected in a 3 gallon container.

She will be fine if you flip her today. If you wait a week, id transplant or trim the root ball before flower.

Ive trimmed root balls as late as two weeks into flower, fwiw, to no detriment whatsoever.

  11. I have two of my Girl Scout cookies in three gallons because they were slow and didn't grow as much as the others. Others got five gallons. Seems to me if your strain is a slow grower 3 gallons should be fine. But.. This is not the voice of experience talking. Not sure if plant height/mass has anything to do with root size. Seems it should. I'm like you.. Hell if I get a z from a plant I'll be way happy. Whatever it turns out to be enjoy!!

  12. Yeah I was thinking the same thing. But then what's logical to a novice like me doesn't always pan out

  13. Flip tonight? Man if Resident Expert Poke say so I'm on it! I'm switching out my cfl's. (4 23w on the top & 2 23w on the sides) & going 12/12. I'm excited and can't wait to see wtf this is ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1425436512.077728.jpg

  14. They usually double to triple in size in flower, i say youre good to go :)

  15. hey scotty, so if you trigger flowering now you'll be probably ok, they only grow roots for maybe the first 20-30 days of flowering, maybe even less, so if you do it soon, you'll be good.
BUT that being said I use 12 and 15 gallon smart pots, been using them for a while, and I can tell you that the same strain vegged the same time, and having one in a 12 and one in a 15 the 15 ALWAYS has a bigger stalk and more yield.
My problem is I can't fit twelve, fifteen gal smarties in my area, I HAVE to use the 12s for at least two of the plants for them to fit.
But the 12s have less yield man, but also keep in mind I grow me some sativas and those like to GROW when triggered.
If you really had the aurora indica you probably wouldn't need a huge pot as they are typically a squatty indica, but umm, that doesn't appear to be an AI....
Looks like that lil lady will stretch a bit when triggered.
Bottom line is this, you can never hurt your plant with a bigger container... so that being said...

  16.
that looks Indica to me or indica dominant at least. you will know sativas or sativa dominants when you get them, leaves are usually  no more than 1/4 inch wide at the widest point. many pheno types will begin to get narrower leaves during flower as it's a real common trait as well.

  17. are you referring to my photo or the post I linked to?
