White plant?

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by tacoman78, Mar 1, 2015.

  1. I planted a seed about a week ago, when it first came up it was yellow and now is starting to turn white. Anyone know what might cause this?

    When it was yellow.

    Now its white.[IMG]
    Any ideas??

  2. An albino! The only time I saw a plant turn white was when I put in indoor plant outdoors in the sun. What kind of light is it under? What kind of soil?

  3. At last something for me to behold:
note pic1 is a little green

pic2 is not green or yellow is in fact fucked as in chlorosis, Chloro-sis as in no chlorophyll, iron is a much needed food for seedlings, I suggest you burnt the hell out of it, pic1, it was unable to repair itself by rooting up some (Fe), but lucky plant has hung in there,
you can spray with water with rust in it, and or insert rusty nail  on 45 degree angle 2-3 inches out from the root zone or just start again, this time use rapid rooters or jiffys

  4. Its in sunshine mix 4 under a 600w mh. I dont see how I could burn it before it even came up? I am new to growing so I am pretty clueless here. Ill try the rusty nail and see what it does, thanks for the replies.

  5. 600w hps is way too strong for a seedling. Seedings should be under fluorescents.

  6. they dont call it white widow for nothing :confused_2: idk how you managed to make it that color and it be alive. btw seedlings dont need much if any nutrients at all.. besides the light if its raised far enough it wont harm seedlings so im going with nute burn.

light bleached? That is a lot of light for a seedling.

  8. I think it looks cool. And I agree. How could it be from the nutrients? She's just a baby. Unless they were already in the soil.

  9. Burnt as in the soil was too HOT in nutes
or the plant food was to rich and burnt the roots ...
    not the plant

  10. Definitely too much light, it got light bleached

  11. My other plants are green and look fine under the same light. I didnt use any nutrients and the soil has none in it so I dont see it being nute burn. Ill just keep growing it and see what happens, it seems to be turning back yellow a bit, like a very light yellow. It will be interesting to see what it does.

  12. Hope everything works out

  13. is the growth stunted? i wouldnt try any of that, its too soon for nutrient deficincies imho. besides rusty nails are going to take a bit for any iron to even be avalible for whitey to even uptake

in this case you may have a bad seed or just a genetic mutation. how stunted is the growth compared to the others?
    .

  14. It is a bit stunted, its not stretching for the light like my others. My others are 1-2 inches now and this one is less than an inch, but if its lacking chlorophyll I would imagine it would have stunted growth right? I dont even know what I could do about that, I will be surpised if it survives very long. I will do my best, but I am a novice grower. I havent even taken a plant from seed to flower yet, so I dont have a clue what to do. Maybe drop a flourescent right on top of it? Try blasting it with light and hope it soaks up enough to keep going? I dont know.

  15. bad seed maybe who knows... maybe a weak kelp/alfalfa tea foliar spray will spring it back to life. If there are no nutrients in the medium try a tiny tiny dose of nutrients next watering.

  16. Interesting quote from the theory department:

1: we see green plants cause its the only color they don't need or absorb

2: so when it comes to white ..they can't absorb it..?

  17. That is an interesting thought, but do they really need green light is the question. I doubt it would be very beneficial anyway? If I am wrong feel free to correct me. If you think it would help, I am certaintly open to trying it. I want to try things that are so supposed to promote the growth of chlorophyll. So the kelp/alfalfa might be a good idea, that is why I thought maybe adding some nitrogen might be beneficial.
I appreciate all the thoughts and suggestions. I will try a few things, the worst I can do is kill it, like I have done many others. I would love to see it go all the way to flower just to see what kind of buds it would produce. I am not sure that is an option though. Between the lack of chlorophyll, its ability to soak up the light it needs and me being an inexperienced grower, I think the chances of survival are pretty slim. I will just continue to grow it as best I can, try a few different things and see what happens. I welcome any and all suggestions and thoughts.

  18. no on the added light...its a seed.

Its dead and light has nothing to do with making it come alive. 600 HID = malaise for a young plant.

one CFL per 2 seedlings MAX. If you dont have any flourescent lights u have to get a couple for seeds and sick plants. Cool or warm doesnt matter just not HID. SEEDLINGS HATE HID

  19. My other seedlings are eating up the HID, I really dont think the light is the problem, its the lack of its ability to soak it up, which I am unsure how to fix.

  20. do you have a pic of what HPS does in veg..
